For me it's the visual. I like a clean looking roll mark, one that has some taste and style to it, rather than some of the others.

Usually it's just a visual for me. But I did have one that was very personal but since it didn't fit in with my build plans I sold it to another fortunate member here

Maybe one day I'll get a custom engraved based on some ideas that have been rattling around in my head

For me it's a combination. I love the Colt pony and the quality you expect, same with S&W. With ArmaLite I love the name, rollmark and nostalgia but I realize the current company has nothing to do with the original AR creator. With the QD US Army rollmark, well I had to have one. My Valkyrie lower, I loved the rollmark and saw quality. It's fun, in the same vein as a zombie or skull rollmark but more subtile. With BCM it's all about quality.
