We've done similar threads. Not of this scale, I do not believe. This may require some extra thinking.

The scenario is that the SHTF and you have just enough time to gather no fewer than 12 members and no more than 15 (SM's and non-SM's) and at least 2 of them have to be female. Everyone is single, no boyfriend or girlfriend, husband or wife; sadly we are all childless for this exercise. The task is to assemble a team that can be self sufficient and productive. The long goal is to give the human race a chance against all adverse conditions and possible zombie and renegade attacks. The "Colony" has to be able to survive for generations. Take what you know of ALL forum members and what they can bring to the "Colony" so your "Colony" has the best chance of survival. Keep in mind that you not only need mechanical aptitude and intelligence, but you need real world practical experience as well. List out your members and the reason why you think they will be a productive and useful member of your "Colony". Also, keep in mind that the group should be able to get along without fighting with each other so much that it becomes counter-productive.

If you are not selected by anyone's "Colony", it is possible that you are not known very well, so you may state your case in the hopes that you will be selected for someone's "Colony".

I encourage all members to take part. In other words, even if you have 10 posts, you can amass your "Colony" for your reasons. If you think that the forum has no clue as to your assets for a "Colony", state your case.

12 people seems like a big group. I would want to go smaller if the SHTF for real. Interesting concept!

    OK:

IGETEVEN - got to have somebody with Jack's background
Canebrake - we'd have some Colt's on hand, old fart wisdom as well
stalkingbear - mandatory to have a redneck specialist (like to have 2 bear's)
SGT Miller - just because the Air Force has to be worth something
C3shooter - reminds me of the professor on Gilligans island
TXnorton - posts in rifles and I know squat about rifles, shoots black powder also
Cpttango30 - anger, harnessed, is a good resource
    Skullcrusher - outdoorsman
Jess - level headed (female 1)
Hydrashok - brings his gun store along
Puff - need a newbie (female 2), shoots tracers off the back porch
    JD - master planner
Benning Boy - all around knowledge
Ineffable - the groups sage and scribe

    What is the geographic environment?

    Political - world sit rep?

Assets? I take it we're still armed?

How many females are current members, and are any of them level 4 mage/healers?

The thought is an area that can sustain life, with some work. Arms are not a problem-they have not been destroyed and can be had.

We have several female members both supporters and non.

The 12 person minimal group is so you would have to think about it, and if repopulation was needed....6 just asks for genetic issues.

A reason of "just because" tells me that you have not thought about it nor have you learned about other member's abilities in areas other than guns; plenty of info is out there about members here. Backgrounds and professions should be taken into consideration, me thinks.

While I don't know if any of the ladies here have "healing" abilities, one would think that persons with medical training would be an asset.

That, Ineff is somewhat well thought out, but not your best. I think you can do better, or I have underestimated your abilities. What about the possibility of rebuilding of large equipment? Who's gonna run the garden or tend livestock? Engineering work? Does your "Colony" have the ability to converse with other "Colonies" or stray persons who do not speak your language? It may not come down to 10 clicks in any direction, it may come to those who can be the BEST asset to replentishing the human race with the best hope of the future.

Still, Ineff has set the stage and amassed the best "Colony" to start. I would be proud and optimistic as a member of Ineff's "Colony". I think we would survive with a good hope of the human race. :D

C'mon...I belted it out in like 5 minutes.... If I actually have to think, I'm going to charge you a usage fee.

Honestly, this would still be my group even if I actually thought it out. I'd just have better reasons for most of them... except for Robo

This is a pretty easy task for me. As I contain a vast knowledge of infrastructure, construction, hydraulics, and linguistics My first pick right out of the box is JD. He's the mother effing jedi of small arms and someone smart enough to talk to without wanting to sever his vocal chords.

My two women are Jess and Samples...mostly because I don't know two other women at FTF. You *****es better be hot, or you'll be food. Just kidding (maybe)

My next budro is BKT. I think if there is one member of FTF that might truly get me (and vice versa) it is this man. He’s a wealth of every type of useful information and extremely intelligent.. Intelligence is highly valued in my colony, though I will add one or two mental midgets for their other, well needed, traits.

SkullCrusher because he is a hunter/fisher and has a sharp mind. Benning, because he can keep morale up, has a calming affect on angry people, and is often the voice of reason, and like Skull, he is able to think 5 steps ahead of the competition.

Robocop10mm because his is a man's man and probably not impotent like most of the rest of my crew (they were selected for this trait) Robo will head up my eugenics program as I develop a super race of badass ninja children who can eff up anyone defying the colony.

Tango will spearhead my special forces. Anyone that angry is going to unleash a mighty fury on enemies of the colony. SGT-Miller will be his ammo boy. IGETEVEN as sergeant, and NGIB as Lt Colonel because of their experience and practicality, and I assume, tactical know how. They will also head up the conscription team. The general knowledge between them covers anything I may be lacking…i.e. mechanics and electronics. NGIB is an engineer after all. He will also be in charge of turning coconuts into radios and laser beams for our “Pink Floyd” laser show/mixer..

    StalkingBear
and Canebrake because you don't get that old and crotchety without knowing a thing or two about a thing or two. Both can handle themselves in a fight, and both are wise enough to know when not to fight. They can see the big picture without giving in to fiery emotions.

This is my colony, and God help any sorry sons of *****es within 10 clicks of our land.

This may become epic, or it can crash and burn like Tango not finishing the Tango Novel in the Bunker even though he said he would.

This is an exercise of knowing those around you (this is a community) and what practical things you know about fellow community members. To communiqué with the fourm is to be a part of the community.

Not 20 years ago, you could ask any person of a neighborhood or a sub-division what your neighbor did for a living and you would get a forthright and positively correct answer. What do you know of your neighbors? What about those who are a part of the same community and those persons with whom you actually interact and chat?

    Hmmmm. Makes one think.

**As I type this, Ineff has named his colony. Can you better his good choices and reasons? Your "Colony" can have the same members. If you can come up with more specific practical reasons you can better Ineff's "Colony" and survive while his regresses to Nethanderthals. Pick your own for practical reasons. Keep in mind, the majoity of members are firearm owners who can actually use them...we can all shoot...

Did i miss the part where somebody picked a person for their machinist skills? IIRC, there are at least two people with that valuable skill on this forum, maybe not on the village blacksmith level, but you gotta start somewhere. Also, aren't there a few gunsmiths out there and reloaders (i can think of two, but don't want to leave anyone out). Assuming there is still some fuel around, a truck driver/transportation specialist/heavy equipment person would be good to have around (SKSguy?). Don't forget the brewers; a life without fun is no life worth living, IMO (dunerunner et al.).

    1) Jess (female 1)

    3) Skull - general outdoors knowledge
    4) JD - as has been stated, small arms extroidinaire, and gunsmithing knowledge AND experience
    5) SGTMiller - strategic knowledge and training skillz (way too much skill for just a simple "s")
    6) Robocop - every group needs a Juggernaut.
    7) MattG - explosives training and strategic knowledge, and heavy equipment expertise
    8) Benning - keeping everyone zen, and general knowledge (also, blades dont run out of ammo)
    9) Stalkingbear - firearms and survivalist knowledge mother load.
    10) Tango - gotta channel that anger into productive energy :D
    11) Goju - someone with like-minded theological ideas to mine.
    12) Inef - again, wealth of general knowledge. Knowledge + Experience = priceless.
