WWI Colt 1911?

I found a nice WWi era colt 1911 its been reblued and has bomar target sights on it. My question is could a gun smith remove these sights and put on military type small sights? Also are these good shooter/carry guns?

As they have already ruined the collector Value of the gun with the re-blue and site job, you could just about do anything ya like and not lose anything? In my case, as it's sacriledge to see it that way, I'd put the old site back in it, have it re-parkerized in the WW1 fasion, Put it in a Nice period Holster and shoot and enjoy it? But,m thats just me? I know one fellow here with a WW2 45 same condition, he uses it aS HIS PRIMARY CARRY GUN AND IT'S FINE FOR THAT?

Hey Metroid - I'd have no problem putting the ol' 1911 back closer to original. It isn't so collectable anymore as Ron points out but one item of note - WW1's were blued not Parked. If you wanted to full out you could get the vintage Carbonia bluing done here http://www.ronsgunshop.com/index.html. They are doing the Colt WW1 Repro and know a LOT about many different custom finishes. With the first several digits of the serial number (use x's for the last two or three) we could nail down it's age better and refer you to the proper finish as well as other specs to look at.

What are you going to do about the "Bomar" cut in the slide?

WWI slides are pretty easy to find. There are 4 dealers in my area that regularly bring several WWI slides to gun shows. Chances are you could find one that would pretty closely match. Did the armories serialize the slides?
