The threaded shaft appears to go all the way through the handle, so you can separate the pieces, allowing you to push the threaded end through a hole then reattach the handle.
The toothed cup would hold the top of the work piece firmly.
This is some kind of clamp, but what could it hold?
for wood or metal?
By the looks of the rotating, toothed cup, I'm guessing wood.
Those 2 angled prongs make this look like it has a pretty specific function.
Are those prongs solid or U shaped? I can't tell from the photo.
And why would the bases of the prongs be different.
something similar ive seen is a cork screw for wine bottles?
Dang, no takers on this one.
It's small. Still don't know what it is.
I will cogitate further.
I know - I know... that's a "go get me that "Doohickey"" So, it is a Doohickey. bobski, do you spend your weekends at the flee-markets just looking for something to mess with us?
In Oklahoma it may be a Doohickey, but where I come from, its a Dingus, bub! Fetch me that Dingus, bub.
It's a fanortner.......
I'm not sure it's a clamp. You wouldn't get much leverage just by twisting that smooth handle, which is what I think it is. A handle or adjustment 'knob' of some sort.
Could it be missing a piece .? Back in the old days they used rope and grease for seals on many things and it looks like some kind of seal or race puller .....?
for a minute i thought maybe a handle for a 2 man saw...but it wouldnt hook like that.
for those wondering, 328 items ago....my dad took ill and lost his mind in 2002. he was a gen contractor/carpenter. he passed in 2006.
i had to go thru his shop deciding what i needed and what was junk. i refused to chuck everything, because it all represented my dad and who he was. the more i found, the more i realized i was ignorant and what he knew made me look like the stupid son i was. he always reminded me of that!
every time i go home to conn...i take a little more out and decide if its useable and i promised myself to at least use it one more time in my life in an attempt to respect and honor dad.
so.....the mystery continues. my dad was a remarkable man. he used everything you are seeing here.
the first 200 are over on gunbroker forums...before i was booted off by some drunk admin owner. just click in world famous or mystery thing in the search.
That is a very noble way to honor your father and I'm sure he'd be smiling down upon you right now .
Now , back to that gadget , no idea ?
I was gonna guess the new Obamacare approved hemorrhoid removal tool.
here we go.... in true ftf form.
i am thinking because your father was a carpenter and most of the tools so far have been more carpentry related it may be something carpentry or woodworking related.
possibly a jig or handle for doing a specific woodworking project.
that one is a stumper for sure.
Last guess , an antique hole saw , for like maybe door hardware ?
I thought the same thing, but couldn't find a similar tool online.
Thats funny, I was also thinking some type of hole saw. Came up empty in the research though. This one is rough!
