    I don't know why they still make them unless it is just for delicate materials so you don't clamp too hard.

    Yours looks like it has a gap in it for round objects like wire or rods.

    I don't use it for pins(I have other pin vises). But I do sometimes use it to hold small parts that I am working on(filing, sanding, grinding).
