    what on earth would take a small bulb like this?
    theyre the size of a 22 short!
    thats a 22LR in the pic!

    We used those types in lighting panels on the inside of aircraft and simulators.

    Aircraft instrument lamps. The flange base bulb is used in my plane to light the instruments. #330 if the 14 volt version. 328 is the 28 volt one. The screw type lamps I remember being used to light compasses.

    Looks like old dashboard light bulbs from older vehicles i've seen before.

    The indicator lights in the alarm panel on my towboat look very similar.

    No wonder I couldnt find a dome light for my 57 Ford, you had them all hidden away................;)
