its a spring loaded plunger. when you push the end, that long shaft goes out. but what for?
Latch pin, the claws locked around the thin part of the shaft.
is it used on windows or cabinets?
I think I remember those being on the top of a closet door. I tried to find it online, but no luck yet.
Okay, I give up. Anybody else?

Im gonna go out on a limb and say that this is part of a lathe duplicator, to trace the pattern to be cut.
Granted, these pics are from a mini lathe so it would probably look a bit different. Thats the best Ive got......
Off the wall here , but a plastics injection mold extractor..! There , I said it..!
After the that's to be made cools , there are a series of pins that push the piece out of the mold..! Like little toy soldiers.?
