    Gents,
I have a model 94 made in 1980 that has no markings on the barrel indicating what caliber or even if it is a winchester. Only the serial number which matches the original carton and a proof mark. It hasn't been fired and I wonder if it is a collector's item or should I just go ahead and use it? Winchester tells me they have no idea why it was not stamped with the maker, model, and caliber numbers and that it should have not left the plant like that but they don't assign any particular value to it as a fluke..

    What's it worth, if anything?

It would have to be studied to make sure it is a Winchester barrel and not a custom barrel. I saw a new in the box Ruger 22 revolver in a store once that was absent of ANY marking except serial number. Dont know if there would be any substancial aditional valve.

The title of your thread is Pre-64....yet you state it was made in 1980??? I've never heard of a recent manufacture Winchester firearm not bearing their name on the barrel. Does the box say Winchester? Does the box indicate the caliber? If not, how do you know it's a 30-30? Did you buy it new in 1980? If not, how do you know the date of manufacture? Too many questions need to be asked before yours can be answered! Welcome to the Forum - why don't you stop by and introduce yourself in the Introductions Section...

RL357Mag brings up some very good points.

It's possible that the barrel has been changed.
brave salmon, do you have pics?
+1 on introducing yourself in the "Introduction" section. :)

These are the kind of things that happen when you buy gun out of the trunk of a car.
