    First off a .25 caliber 30-06 is called a 25-06. Next if you are getting 4,300+ fps out of a 25-06 with a 23 1/2" barrel your chronograph is busted...

    Without doing the cronographing myself I would have to agree with WAMBLI. Seems all my work with a 25-06 never came close to that velocity. Next from a distance it looks like an original Winchester barrel as it has a rear sight boss. Since Winchester never chamber the pre -64's for that caliber and assuming it has an original barrel then the only logical explanation is, the gun was chambered for a smaller round and either rechambered and rebored or was originally a 257 Roberts that was bastardized.
