Anyone have experience with a Winchester Model 37 scattergun? I have one that has ceased firing - just goes 'click.' I'm figuring either a broken firing pin or a headspace problem. Any thoughts?

Does the hammer fall, but it does not fire?
    I would suspect firing pin.

Exactly - hammer is in good shape, but nothing happens. You are probably right - I'm going to pull it apart and see what I find. I'm new to fixing guns, so your input is helpful.

With the barrel open and gun cocked you can put a finger over the firing pin hole and pull the trigger. You will feel the pin hit your finger if it is not broken(which yours is very likely to be broken).

Word of warning, it might sting a bit. Lol

Instead of a finger, I use a soft wood piece (like pine).
Then I have impression of firing pin hit.
That way I can see if the firing pin may have the tip broken off, also.

Great tip. Avoids a bruised or bloodied finger tip.

I used my finger once and it didn't feel very good. Thanks for the tip about using a piece of wood.
