    Hey guys,

I recently received a Winchester Model 1894 handed down to me from my grandfather and I am having some trouble properly identifying it. The gun says Winchester Model 1984 with a serial number 149XX. The gun was manufactured in 1895 according to the serial number, however on the barrel it says Model 64, which according to my research were manufactured between 1933-1957. Is this just a different barrel put on the older style gun?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I also have pictures of all the markings on the guns if anyone would like to see pictures to help me out. Thanks again, JOSH

I have studied Winchester 94's for 4 decades and have seen many configureations. It sounds like an early 1894 that had its worn barrel replaced with a model 64 barrel. The model 64 was simply a model 94 with a different stock and magazine. The barrel and action are the same as a 94. So it was a simple fix for a worn barrel. Some photos would help.
