I do not understand why a lot of Americans hate the AK. I'm not asking for smart remarks or anything related in only asking for opinions and the reasoning behind them. A lot of people I see on here try to compare the AK to the AR which doesn't make any sense at all to me it's like comparing a BMW to a deuce and a half. Or a gas mask to a respirator and so on and so forth. I understand every country takes pride in the firearms it manufactures but that does not give you any reason to put another country down because it's firearm is not the most accurate. Thank you all take care

I can only speak for myself but I like the AK family a lot and believe they are very capable rifles.

I feel both are very comparable as they serve the same purpose.

There are misconceptions about both firearms. One being the AKs accuracy in its intended capacity nad the reliability/ruggedness of the AR.

I think most of the people that talk smack about the AK, would probably still agree that it is at least a reliable gun.

That's how I am with GLOCK. Can't stand the damn things, but I'll say in a heart beat "At least it works"

Maybe because they have been shot at by someone wielding one?

I think they are fine pieces of machinery for what they are designed for. But I really don't care to own one primarily for what they stand for. For anyone older than 30, the AK is the personification of communist aggression.

I know... I know. It's just a machine. It's still got that stigma.

I think it's because the media and sort of our own government have made it the bad guy gun, you always see the bad guys with them. From terrorist to gang bangers, I think the reason a lot of people compare the two is it seems like they're always going head to head against each other in almost any war or conflict. Me personally I prefer the AK to the AR I just like the feel better, also where I go camping and hunting I don't need to shoot 200 yards the longest shot I've had was 90 at the max, they're reliable, powerful, and hard as hell to break.

Canebrake is awesome as always

Here's my shake. I think the people who dis like the AK like the FNFAL, HK91, witch are superior battle rifles. What people like that fail to realize is I can put an AK in the hands of 4-5 solders for every FN prob more for every HK. It's this that makes the AK so dangerous, and the fact that they just won't quit.

It could also be due to the fear of the weapon’s effectiveness.
    There quite a difference between a 7.62 and a 5.56.

AK's tend to end up in the wrong hands QUITE often so alot of peeps want nothing to do with that karma and feel it would be down right unpatriotic to purchase one. And for many there is that whole "not made in the U.S.A" reasoning.

I like AK's, it's a solid design and no one can deny the hell and back reliabilty of an AK. Don't own one yet but i will when i find the right one:D.

Don't let the hateful words of some internet jockey get you down. If there is one thing i've noticed in this country over the years, is that some people take freedom of speech too far by making ignorant/hateful comments towards whatever or whoever "just because they can"(just because you can DOES NOT mean you should IMO). Just my .02

I think one of the main reason that the AK ends up in wrong hands is because they're just so damn easy to use, I can teach a group of illiterate rednecks (my cousins) in 30 minutes how to use and maintain an AK, took me a week or so to teach them to do the same with AR.

Well duh. You can almost clean an AK w a water hose where as you need a thing of mobile 1 and an air hose/spray nozzle for an AR

well i will say this, i have never owned an AK, but if the right one came along at the right price and time, it would be added to my collection. i can understand some peoples stigmas with the idea of a Communist Bloc countries firearms, but it's just an inanimate object with no thoughts or feelings. they aren't as accurate as other rifles, but they tend to shoot when cared for with less than stellar maintenance. they tend to shoot just about any ammo fed through them, they are cheap and easy to build. sounds pretty good to me. there are better semi auto rifles than the AK, but there are probably many worse than it too. IMO, the AK is an excellent design of a reliable battle rifle. look at it's hisory and how long it's been around and just like the AR and the 1911, it's been copied many times.

The “why a lot of Americans Hate the AK” has not been seen here to my knowledge yeah maybe for what is stands/stood for as was said earlier. Personally I have one in the stables. But, using that as the Basis for your so called hatred BMW (Nazi’s used armed BMW motorcycles) and Mitsubishi ( the zero among others)

I'm over 30 and a combat vet and as I stated earlier like the AK. The thing is it's just not as capable as the AK, in general.

I think if the soldiers training on the AK would have been brought up on the AR they would feel the same way.

Its not that i hate the AK. I hate the sound of the AK due to being shot at by it too many times. Its a good platform and easy to learn how to shoot and maintain.
