It seems to be most of the time 9mm vs 40 vs 45...what happened with good old 357 Magnum..Wondering who here still relies on it as their primary carry/house gun...somehow I'm growing a soft spot for my Ruger GP100 3' with magnum loads as my house/car handgun even though I own 9mm and 40 pistols...
I keep my Taurus Model 65, matte stainless, 4 inch barrel with Hogue grip loaded with Golden Sabres on the nightstand. Like has already been said, no fumbling, no bumbling, if I wake up in the middle of the night and the zombies are inside the wire, the first few through the door are gonna HATE it.
Plus, as an added bonus, my girl (who HAS shot before but isn't a regular shooter) can just pick it up and pull the trigger to make "bang" happen if I'm not around and it hits the fan.
I have owned a S&W 357 Mag. model 581 since 1987.
Wouldn't sell for anything. I use it for home defense
and when I'm hunting just in case of the unforeseen.
Wouldn't mind buying another .357Mag...
maybe a lite weight compact model, but the funds don't allow.
I don't always "carry" my .357 Magnum, but it's ALWAYS next to me when I'm in my house. Especially when I'm working in my home office. I wouldn't ever give up my Colt King Cobra for anything. I also have several S&W 629's near by too.

Although I prefer to carry my 1911, I also carry this Mod. 66 2 1/2" which I built back in around 1979. It started life as a 4". I shortened the barrel, gave it a custom target crown and milled a front sight for it. The finish is matt and polished stainless. Action is one of the slickest around and it will print 1" groups at 25 yards all day.
Thought this a good place to post a pic of my S&W.357mag.
I posted a thread earlier on this topic (pg.1) of how I use my
.357Mag. it's mostly a woods gun, but I do have it available
for home defense.
Love my Ruger SP101, but since ammo is scarce I've had to buy a Brazilian make of rounds. Magteck using steel instead of brass. My reloading buddy tells me that they are so hard on the dies as to be unusable. So, it's target ammo at best.
I keep the .357 highway patrolman model 28 S&W 6 inch barrel with Hogue monogrips and old school black talons for ammo. S&W Performance Center gave it a action tune-up and fixed the timing........now, flawless!
Just got a Taurus 650 with CT Lasergrips. 2" bbl, 5 rounds. Got it to replace my Taurus 850 (.38 SPL). Figured I'd use .38 SPL in 3 chambers, .357 in the last 2 just in case, and the laser might deter a crook just by the sight of it zeroing in on him!
I normally carry the S&W M&P 40, but will carry the 650 as back-up. I like the .40 round - very manageable kick, good knock-down power, plenty of ammo around since it's not one of the preferred calibers. I used to carry the Glock 23, but got the M&P 40 as I was never quite comfortable with the Glock trigger safety as the only safety.
Well usually ill carry my Colt Combat Commander as a primary and a .357 sp101 loaded with +p hps as a back up. But often ill carry my Gp-100 as a primary and use either my sp101 or my bersa .380 as my back up. In colder weather i like having my GP100 in a shoulder holster. Its nice... It usually doubles as my House gun also.
I alternate between a 44 Spl. and a .357. The Taurus 605 is the bedside weapon, so I gues that's primary now. Wife prefers it - well, actually she prefers my Blackhawk .357.
My wife's bedside gun is a Model 60. It's loaded with .38+P's right now but I'm loading hornady XTP .357's for it. I keep a 4006 on my side of the bed.
I have often carried a 357 and used it as a house gun as well. Since my wife has taken ownership of my SP101 I keep it loaded with 38 +p's and keep a 45 by my bed.
My S&W 627 Perf Center is my bedroom gun--8 rounds of .357 and a silky smooth trigger that rivals my Python.
