I bought this 70 new in 1974. It has a 22" barrel & the preferred 3-position (vs 2-position) safety. Been all over trying to determine its variant & value w. no luck. Winchester says to take it to Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops but that's 200 miles plus round trip! I can always download the "Blue Book of Gun Values" but that's $34.95. Yikes! Gundigeststore has a Winchester download but it's inconclusive. Anyone have any knowledge as to what I have or its value or where I could go to find this all out? After these forums I'm thinking maybe google some books on post-'64 Win 70s & see if the local library can get something for me. Need a post-'64 Win 70 expert! Thanks. Not sure if these 9 pics are attached or not...keepin' my fingers crossed.

    MrBot.

That is one beautiful Winchester Post 64 Model 70 Rifle. I would estimate it's value should you be selling it for $550.00-$625.00. And it also depends on the area you are selling it in. For example since Indiana does not allow deer and other game animals with rifles it would be of lesser value. But if in Montana, Wyoming, Texas and other great hunting states it would be worth more. However if is was a pre 64 Model 70 it would be worth much more. Thanks for the great pictures! Always like to see quality weapons on the Forum.

You would have no trouble getting $600 for it in KY, but I hope you don't plan on selling it since you have had it this long. Love the model 70 Winchester!

Yepper, it is a very pretty Win 70. I took the stock off this week-end, scraped the clear coat off the black end caps & white spacers (you can see it was peeling off), wet sanded the caps/spacers with several grits between 400-2500 & plan on trying to maybe just polish those areas rather than re-coat with clear. I'll try to get some pics of that finished product if anyone wants to see how it turns out. I've been told in another forum it's a "Standard Sporter" but with the decorative caps I'm not real sure. This was a purchase when I was 19 that was a result of reading "Field & Stream", "Sports Afield" or one of the NRA mags from about 7th grade on...mom would let me have one subscription per year to any mag I wanted & all through HS it was one of those...basically taught me how to read! To make a long story short I already had the .22 Marlin bolt dad gave me plus a 16 Mossy K Mart sold me...I wasn't into handguns, so the next logical step was to buy one of those hi-powered beauts I'd been looking @ all those yrs. in those mags. You gotta admit, she'd of been hard to say no to.
