I love my 4" Python and carry it every so often, just because. The angle of the photo makes the grip look outsized, which it is not. It is a real hard choice between this and one of my Ed Brown 1911's but between those, I never feel undergunned.

I have to put my vote in for the gp 100, Now its not exactly fair because I've never used the others. My step father has a gp100 and I absolutely love it, It's very comfortable, and compared to other revolvers I've shot I really like the trigger on it too.

I don't know if I can offer much in your decision making journey. I have shot the S&W 686 and the Colt Python, both of which I liked, but neither of which I have ever owned.

When I think about a revolver, I think about something truly epic. Like Red Dawn - The entire crew gets bows/arrows, hunting rifles from the gun store and they make a go of it against the invading Russians.

And there is Patrick Swayze with his father's hand me down Colt Single Action Army that is his personal "Justice" piece throughout the movie. .45 Long Colt and ivory handles..... *drools* It was just MANLY, because Patrick made it that way, using it to extract final payment on debts due.

The pistol itself was from the personal collection of the director, which I always thought was really cool.

I think the right revolver just calls to you and you will know it when you come across it. Especially if you don't have one already.

Have a S&W 681 4" barrel w/fixed sights with a slick DA,it's the same as a 686 except w/o the adjustable sights.

I own a few Pythons and they are fantastic revolvers. Truly works of art. I would not dare to take mine hunting though or even use them for HD. On the slight chance that you ever have to defend yourself, I would be taken by police as evidence and you may not get it back. My rule of thumb for defense is not to use a gun that is no longer in production.

You should probably consider the larger N-frame Smiths too. Model 27, 28, and 627. Even more robust than the GP100 because it's the same frame that's used on their .44 Mag models. If its made to handle .44 Mag, then you'll likely never come close to hurting it chambered in .357.
