    Here's what I have already:
    (x2) Ruger 10/22 22LR
    Remington 700 300 WIN MAG w/scope
    Ruger Mini-14 223
    Bushmaster M-4 223

Here's what I'm thinking about next:
AK-47 or AK-74 (which is better? why?)
    AR-15 w/scope

Any other suggestions for my next rifle?

I am considering each as my next purchase too so I've been reading a lot on the AK v. AR discussions. There are many good reasons to buy each of these, so that's what I plan to do.

I decided on an AK platform for now and then an AR later on. The AK's generally lower purchase price and reliability suits my initial interests, and the AR's long range accuracy and customizing options will definitely bring me back for a future purchase.

The only difference I know of between the AK-47 and the AK-74 is caliber. 7.62x39 or 5.45x39.

As for other options I second the M1 garand, and also you might consider a Savage model 14

How about a Savage "Law Enforcement" model 110 B/A in 338 Lupua Mag, OR a Savage model 12 Target in 6.5 Creedmore. They're not quite the bullet spitting dragons that the AR's are known for, but if I had the money, I would sure have them in my arsonal.

you could buy a rifle that'd should hold its value.....how about a Browning sporting rifle, why not spend money with a American based firm?

Well, with the options in your thread,I'd say get an AK 47. No need in buying another AR,just buy another complete upper for your Bushy if you want a dedicated flattop with optics.

AK in 7.62 X 39. Ammo readily available from a variety of sources including all of the US makers.

I would be hesitant on the 5.45 AK's (74) as there are no domestic makers and one stroke of the pen by Oblama and the import stuff stops.

    "O-blame-A" ...how true.

I think I've actually come to the conclusion to not ever get an AK, because I'm going to stick with the ammo types I already have.

For rifle, I'm narrowing in on a scoped 223 rifle. I'm maybe interested in another Mini-14 with a scope this time. I like iron sights, but I think I can get more range distance accuracy if I use a scope. Doesn't have to be a Mini though. I'll look at bolt action rifles if they can do better on accuracy distance.

So, now that I'm narrowing it down. I think I have the caliber picked and am set on using a scope. A lot of different hunting rifles come in 223. Yep, that's what I want.

That's how it works for me.

I start with a broad range of options and just keep narrowing it down until I know what I'm going to get. Now the fun of shopping for the best price.

Many bolt action rifles in .223 have 1/12 twist rate barrels. These will give good to exceptional performance with bullets weighing 55 grains or less. You will be unlikely to get decent performance with the modern heavy weight bullets. Not that this is a bad thing, just that it will limit your ammunition selection some.
