I am needing a 30.06, bolt-operatated. Stainless steel, synthetic stock, iron sights. What are my options? I am having a tough time finding any rifles with iron sights. This will pretty much be one of my survival guns. Any suggestions from you folks? Want to keep the price around $500 or less.

I know you want Bolt but I'm more preferable to a garand in that cal.

If you say it is one of your survival guns, what are you gong to do for ammo when you run out of .06?

There should be plenty of 308 NATO lying around that you can buy, barter for or steal if necessary. Go to Impactguns.com and look around. I like the price of the Weatherby Vanguard Synthetic, but I'll bet you would have to add iron sights.

I'm with dunerunner on this one. their are a lot of 30-06 cartridges in the stores because a lot of people have them. So in a SHTF kind of world what do you think is going to go first? the most popular calibers. Not many rifles come with open sights anymore.

Try looking at Gallery Of Guns.

I wold look for a 223 or 308 as these are the most popular military cartridges along with the 9mm.

Ya gotta have an -06! Ya also gotta have a .308 and .223 and .30-30 and 7.62 X 39 and....the list goes on and on.

Weatherby Vanguard. Remington 700. Iron sights are going to be a problem. Not many bolt guns come with them any more. With a Remmy you could have someones take off installed.

I like the Remmy SPS for a low budget rifle.

Since we are suggesting different calibers that 30-06, the Remington 798 Safari has iron sights. But it only comes in .375 H&H Mag and .458 Win Mag and is about $600 over your price limit. That would qualify this firearm as a joke regarding your specifications.
Remington 750 Woodsmaster comes in 30-06 and is only a little over your spending limit. But it is a semi-auto.
The Remington 700 BDL also comes in 30-06, but is also way over your spending limit.
The Remington 7600 is the same deal, only its a pump action.

So just from looking at one manufacturers firearms, its clear that your specifications are a little too...... specific. My official recommendation is to get a Remington 700 SPS Stainless, and if your hell-bent on having iron sights, your going to have to have them installed.

Rem 7600 pump. You can get it with synthetic stock, and parkerized finish. Decent open sights, and a rifle or carbine length in 06. And in your price range.
