Hello to all....my 1st thread here, but I'm sure the subject has been dealt with already. I've decided to acquire a 1911 for PD use. I'm sure the topic has been discussed, but I'd like your feedback about this German 1911 chambered for .22LR. It also has a conversion kit to bring it to .45acp for $200 extra, ( total, about $550). I'd appreciate any & all feedback on this 1911. Thanx for your wisdom & experience. I know there's other 1911s out there, but money's tight & I wanted to get one as economically as possible455jjd

No offense, but that seems backwards to me. Buy a proper .45ACP 1911 and get a .22 conversion kit for it. It will cost more, but I think you'll be much more pleased in the long run.

Better still, buy a decent 1911 and the .22 that Cane posts periodically. Hopefully he'll do it again here.

Don't forget about the used market. I've scored some deals that way.

Me I'd buy a 1911 in 45ACP then look for a 22 at some other point. Conversion kits are just a 200.00 half gun. That one cane talks about (GSG I think) runs a little over 300. and it's a whole gun. No pesky changing just to use some other ammo. I personally have a Ruger and a Browniong that I get all my 22 fun from. Both where around 225.00. That's not a lot for the other half of a gun.

    Which 1911

DrumJunkie, that GSG 1911 .22lr is the one I am referring to. It's marketed by American Tactical. Spec'd out in American Standard dimensions, lotsa 1911 parts are interchangeable. Good idea about the used stuff, too. Thanks guys, jd45

    Which 1911

russ..............if you go to tactical22.net & scroll down, you'll come to the GSG 1911. Or you can Google "German Sport Guns". jd45

BTW russ, I haven't seen the kit, either..........I just heard about it from the guy I met at the Bristol, WI shooting Range who bought one of the guns, saying it was available for anyone wanting to upgrade theirs to .45ACP. You might contact American Tactical Imports, the U.S. distributor, & ask them. jd45

I have the GSG (and love it) but I had not heard of the .45acp kit before.
