I just moved to Orlando from Las Vegas. I'm used to being able to drive 30 minutes and be out in the middle of nowhere and be able to shoot up to 1000 yards if I wanted....Not that my Mosin can reach that far but at least 300-400 yards would be nice.....I don't mind going to an indoor range to shoot pistols, but what is the sense of shooting a 500 yard capable rifle at a location that is only 75 yards??? DUMB!!! So my question stands...are there any areas that are open to shooting, within an hour or so of Lake Mary/northern Orlando where I can shoot long distance without bringing the BATF, CIA, FBI, local Sherriff and Police SWAT units and ranchers down on me shooting back and taking me to jail for the rest of my life? For THAT matter, are there any ranges that offer MORE than 100 yards, IF that?
Thanks guys for any help.....I really need to get out and blast some lead....looking forward to the gun show July 4th weekend....hoping it's MUCH better than the crappy gun shows that came to Las Vegas....

No answers? I am a member of a local outdoor range, but I still want to find a place to legally shoot outdoors. I am in Gainesville/Alachua area. Anyone have land or recommendations?

I was wondering the same thing. I'm from the north east and I always wondered if you could just drive out into the middle of nowhere and shoot legally. I see all these YouTube videos like nutnfancy and he's got some nice setup out in the desert. So, assuming a lived out on the boonies, could we just hike out into the middle of the woods and plink? I'm assuming most of the guys in these videos don't own 100 acres in the desert and/or woods.

If you have any local LGS's you might hang out there for a few hours and ask them or anyone who comes in where they may shoot.

No problem. For the more technically challenged :) here's a more direct link to Find A Range. http://wheretoshoot.org/Find_Range/index.asp

For you, and maybe for the Orlando guy, the closest I know of for an outdoor range would be in the Ocala National Forest. It's on Forest Road 88 north off of SR 40 a few miles east of Mill Dam or west of SR 19. Beware. This is an open range for anyone. There are rules posted, but as of the last time I went, there is no range safety officer to enforce them.

I don't live in Orlando, but I do live in The metro Miami area! Welcome to big city life!! Where handguns are the prominent, desirable weapon! 2 big reasons, obviously outdoor ranges are rare and high population and close quarter living diminishes the need to practice long range shooting for SD! It's all about SD down here and very little to do with nailing Game from 200 yards! I'm not saying that nobody uses a rifle for SD, but I am saying, highly populated areas are largely about concealment and SD from 2 legged creatures from 25 yards in!!

Just found this link. Regarding the one in the Ocala area, I know it was FR 88, but they list it as FR 11. Maybe they renumbered, maybe it's a typo. Google map it if you're interested. You can look for fire towers along Florida SR 40 between Barberville and Mill Dam, and the range is less than 1/2 mile north of the tower.
