Im curious, mine is the 7-08rem, I've had great luck with it.
well i think we are on the same page! after buy my 7mm-08 about three years ago, then started reloading for it, it is definately one of my favorites. very accurate, mild recoil, good all around medium game caliber. following in second place would be my 308.
mmstw, i am now at three rifles using a 7mm bullet. a Marlin XS7 in 7mm-08, a Ruger M77V in 280 Rem., and a Remington M700 in 7mm Rem. Mag. i think i have the 7mm caliber covered pretty good, but i really want a bolt action chambered in 7x57!
308 Winchester. Very scalable, accurate, deadly, moderate recoil, factory ammo is cheap and easy to find. Need I say more...
My favorite is the 6mm Remington. Versatile all round cartridge faster than the .243 (which is also a 6mm), just as accurate as the .243, and w/ the longer case neck, more reloadable that the .243.
I am also a big fan of the .308 Winchester. It is easy to find ammo for the .308. For reloading there are many different weights and types of bullets available. The .308 is a very accurate round and powerful enough for most big game. I think the thing I like most about the .308 is the fact that my M1A shoots it.
I don't own any short action rifles, but I like the .223 and .243. They're just great rounds.
Tex got me thinking, The only short actions I own are .308 and .223. I like them both for the jobs they do.
I have to say .308 is my favorite. It is a great round that can get the job done with very little recoil, allowing for quick follow up shots. In second I would say the .243 as it does the same thing the .308 does, just with less weight behind it. After that I put the .223, it's a great round but I just happen to like the other two better.
Since .308 and .223 are the only short actions that I have I rekon they are my favorites. I am mulling over the idea of adding a .243 to the battery at some point.
Ammo for both .308 and .223 is never a problem and both are extremely accurate.
For the reasons listed above, .308.
It packs a punch, ammo is readily available.
