I believe that most people, laymen especially, are referring to a Colt 1911 .45ACP when they refer to a "Colt .45". Wouldn't a Colt .45 be a Colt .45 revolver?

    What's your definition?

If someone asks me or mentions a Colt .45, I would assume that they were talking about a single action revolver. If the .45 was pertaining to a 1911, it should be stated as a 1911 or 1911 type .45.

    Just my opinion,
    Jim................

I would assume they were talking about a single action wheel gun IF the person saying such knew anything about weapons.

If they were a complete layman, I would ask, but assume they were talking about ANY 1911 pistol, maybe in .45 caliber.

Someone with gun savvy and I would assume a Colt SAA (Peacemaker). Other folks a 1911...

'Zactly. That's what I think. I don't think most laymen are familiar with the term 1911.

I always think "cowboy gun" even though they weren't all 45 caliber.

Hey there were lots of them colt 45's in the barracks at Fort Hood. Give a girl one of them and it makes for an interesting night on fireguard.

A colt 45 is a Colt SSA revolver or one of that time to me that is.

That there is one of my dream guns. A nice 4" barreled SSA revolver in 45 LC.

Same here, Colt 45 is the Colt Single Action Army, chambered in 45 Colt.
If a newb used that term, then I'd ask him to clarify. I've noticed that alot of people think that name can be use for both the Colt SAA's and the Colt 1911's in 45 Cal.
