With my Phoenix HP22, I would expect my target to be within 21 feet, preferably less.

100 yards is easy for a 22. There is already a thread on this. Search it.

Shooting over 500 yards is easy with my PPK/s in .22lr.

Oh, did you mean that I was to hit something on purpose? Then the furthest distance I have any accuracy with my PPK/s is approx 100 yards.

I have a marlin 880ss with a scope and it's sighted in at 100 yards. I dont have a problem hitting a golf ball.

    1.5 miles I believe.

Accurately, 150 yards is my limit for anything smaller than 4-6". I can hit a 2" target very reliably at 100 yards but past that accuracy seems to drop exponentially, maybe it's the wind affecting a very light and slowing bullet?

At about 100 yards, the bullets from most .22 LR rifles are dropping from supersonic to subsonic. As this happens the shock wave induces a wobble to the bullet, and accuracy goes to hell.

With the right rifle and ammo, I can get sub 1 inch groups at 100 yards. At 300 I could hit an oil drum. Yes, will drive a bullet 1 to 1.5 miles- but with the accuracy of a thrown chair.

What kind of chair should I get?

What kind of chair is best for throwing at oil drums at 300 yards?

According to the World Wrestling Federation, folding chairs perform much better than recliners. If you can find the ballistic tip folding chair (BTFC) it will have much better accuracy. In a pinch you could use the basic metal kitchen chair, but the wooden chairs will have sharply limited range. Sofas should never be thrown, and may penetrate walls into adjacent homes.

I find Ikea furniture best for home defense because it won't penetrate exterior walls.

Ikeas are interesting, but the 1968 Furniture Control Act, dealing with cheap imports, and the Saturday Night Snoozer has made finding those a bit of a challenge.

And I think Illinois and New Jersey may have outlawed them.

Didnt know that. The gun I was useing was a 22mag. That and the micro grv barrel seem to handle a 100 yards without much of a problem.

Here is a table displaying various .22 round velocities at the muzzle, 50, & 100 yards, out of a Ruger 10/22 (I’m presuming).

    http://www.ruger1022.com/docs/22lrballistics.htm

At 60 degrees F, the speed of sound is 1117.469 fps. The high velocity and magnums seem to be the only rounds still supersonic at 100 yards.
Sorry, no chairs on the chart.
