Just wondering what most hunters started out with for deer hunting?

I started with the 30-06 when I was 10 or 11 years old which was a Remington 742 Woodmaster that I purchased brand new from Walmart,I delivered a bunch of newspapers for that rifle. :D lol

The first rifle I used was a ruger 44 mag carbine. I just purchased my first true deer rifle recently. It's a Ruger American in 270.

Mine was a Remington 770 when I was nine. Shot a few good deer with that rifle. I am 15 and getting an AR-15.

Marlin lever action 30-30. Killed a 6 point buck first time in the woods.

I climbed up a pine tree and sat on a limb just at daylight. Sho-nuf a buck appeared out of nowhere about 30 yards away.

My first deer killer was a Mossberg 500. Today I have nice rifles but I still prefer to hunt with a shotgun. It's hard to do more damage than a shotgun flinging an ounce of lead.

A 1961 Remington Model 760 Gamemaster in .30-06, I was 20-something at the time, so that would have been in the early 1980s. I think I sold it at roughly the same time I sold my 1st handgun, my S&W 586 .357, needed the money. my cousin still has and hunts with the 760.

My first deer rifle was an old military 30-40 Krag. peep sights, side magazine, Accurate, Heavy, and borrowed from my Step Grandpa. He was kind of a jerk and wasn't real hip on me going, but he did put me on to my first deer, and for that I will always be grateful. That was 40 years ago.

In my minds eye I can still see that forked mulie jumping out of a thick brush and timber patch in the Blue Mountains here in Eastern WA., at about 50 yards, after being bumped by a guy that was hunting with us.
I swung the gun up just like I was pheasant hunting, not even sure I looked thru the peep, just swung thru the bucks neck right at the base.....Boom.....As soon as I came back on the buck from the recoil, there he laid....not even a twitch. Right thru the base of his neck.

Yea, I know. Pure Dumb A$$ luck, but, it set in motion a love of hunting and the outdoors that has lasted till a few years ago....Don't hunt anymore. I've killed enough.
Sorry for the length of the post, just got a little melancholy.

    BT:cool:

Ky I enjoyed your report on your new Ruger American, good luck with it this coming season.

darth good luck with that AR15

And you've been a Deerhunter ever since :) That's some good hunting first time out!

Those Win 94s are some sweet rifles.

I have to agree slinging an once of lead something's going down :D Those Mossys are hard to beat.

Always liked those Marlins,my cousins each had one, very nice levers.

    I'm a Rem. 700 fan,nice choice

Those remmy pump rifles are some nice deer huntin' rifles, quick and accurate.
