I'm sort of new to guns. I purchased a saiga 16" .223 and would like to put a scope on it. What brands are good and what magnification?

First we need some more info.
    What is your budget?
What will you be doing with rifle ... Hunting or targets or both and at what distance?

If you have a $50 budget that is fine but just pick something and buy it because you will probably end up replacing it. There are many good quality scopes out there and you will get many recommendations here. Just keep in mind that everyone's eyes see things a bit differently so go look through scopes and choose one based what YOU like... not us (don't just buy online because somebody here likes it)

I will be using it just to shoot around. Anywhere from 100-200yards. budget would be around $100.

I'd advise getting the aftermarket receiver cover with the picatinney rail built on it,instead of the side scope mount.
The side mount puts the scope high over the receiver, and you can't get a good cheek weld with it.

I will agree aimpoint is very good if not the best. But expensive. So for around $100 try to find a Nikon 2-7. Nikon is very good glass for the money. But I will suggest just using the iron sights in the beginning and then decide if you really want to put any kind of optic on your rifle. I bought a red dot and a scope, tried them both and went back to the irons. It just felt better ( to me ) to use the irons.

Visit website of Grafs and Sons. Use their search for BSA Majestic DX or look in their sale section. Most places with this model of BSA scopes sell the highest power one (6-24x44) for around $140. Grafs has this one for around $90 last time I checked....lower power ones are on sale too. Anyway, have 3 of the 6-24x44 Majestic DX on centerfire rifles from 223 to 6.5x55. Decent glass and I've no complaints about them.
