Some idiot on YouTube keeps private messaging me about how his Glock is all that and a bag of potato chips after I tried to tell him that no Glock is comparable to a Colt 1911 other than that it can hold more ammunition.

So what is everybody else's opinion on this "Colt 1911 v. Glock" thing? I know some will hate me for asking this.

There is no comparison. Just ask him why, in about 20 years, Glock is on their THIRD evolution? Then tell him to come talk to you when Glock puts out their 100th Anniversary Edition.

    End of Argument.

I guess you can opt to throw both of them at him and see which one is more durable.

Every gun has it's "fanboys" and many, many folks feel the need to justify their purchases. Glocks are fine handguns for the masses; however, they do nothing at all for me...

Go to the youtube user's channel page, and click the "block user" button. Your problem is solved.

If you are answering his messages, you are just continuing the argument, therefore you should not be complaining.

Asking in the 1911 section is like asking an American which is better The US or Europe.

The reason that people continued to create new handguns after the 1911 was produced is that there is no single gun that is the best solution for every situation/scenario.

I can feel the bombs being lobbed at me already, but I will offer my opinion, from some one who owns both.

I have been shooting 1911's for most of my life. Currently still own one. I also own 3 Glocks all in 40S&W (22,23 and 27). Comparing Glocks to a 1911 is comparing night and day. Each are different. There is nothing like the feel of a steel framed 45 ACP 1911 in your hand. They shoot and point true and are way more accurate than most people behind the trigger.

But my wife will not touch the 1911 period, she is afraid of it. But she will stand with me at the range, with confidence and fire 200 rounds with her G-23. It took me several months to get her comfortable with the 23. And now when I am not home, I am more comfortable she can protect herself with her 23 if the need arose.

Anyone who argues about one gun being better than the other is entering into an un-winable argument. I love 1911's and will always have them. But I do love my Glocks.

I agree with the above post. I own both and it is just my opinion, that they each have there own place. I love my 1911, and I like my Glock as well. I have never had any problems with either of them. I have fired over 2,000 rounds through my Kimber without issue. I will say this, i have owned and sold 3 Glocks in the past, and only have one currently, but i will never sell my 1911.

Two different platforms, although g***k copied some ideas from the 1911. It's like which is better, an apple or an orange?

Amen...the GLOCK is what the 1911 USED TO BE.

Glock: FIGHTING HANDGUN OF THE 21st CENTURY.

    1911...BELOVED OLD WAR HORSE.

I still love my 1911's and my Hi Powers...but I don't trust either as much as I trust my Glock. Not even my Wilson or my Ed Brown have had the 100% reliability that ALL of my Glocks have had.

Do I "LIKE" the 1911 better? In many ways yes. Do I trust it as much? Nope.

I own one. An old gen1 G17 that lives in my survival bag. Its cleaned, worn (picked up for $300 bucks), and went bang the times I've shot it for function. Does it get handled a lot or get much range time? Not so much. See it more of a tool than anything. Ergonomics like a 17th century hand lathe lol. They are what they are.

I saw another post by a more regular member about likening appreciation of firearms to that of cars. Each car has its fans for reasons.

One idea about the fan boy appreciation is that those who enjoy the feel of steel and the fans of polymer get into rants on the internet. Many of the posts from that genera are the ones that yield some of the funniest responses from the resident experts and personalities. Good reading then head up to the 1911 forum to ogle the fine finish and grips.

My carry piece, revolvers, and my 1911 all live "inside".

    I couldn't agree more!

My very first pistol was my Grandpa's Colt M1911 (1911A1) and it is a rugged, reliable, accurate weapon. I've intentionally dropped in mud, water, sand, and HORSE CRAP just to see if it would fire. IT DID. EVERY TIME ;)

On top of all of that, it is an easy maintained weapon. There's a real reason the US used it for so long. Don't ask me what they were thinking when they went to the M9!!!

On the other hand, my Glock pistols are un-matched when it comes to reliability, efficiency, and usability. All of my Glocks are easy to maintain, easily customized, fire extremely well, and are equally safe.

I've probably fired over 17,000 rounds out of my Glock 23,27, and 31. Ive always kept them tediously clean and lubricated and they've NEVER misfired or jammed.

When I was in Iraq, I was carrying my Sidearm, a Beretta M9 (9mm Parabelllum for you newbies) and engaged an insurgent. I hit him 4 times center mass, the M9 jammed, and he kept spraying with an RPK. A SEAL brought up a Glock 22, tapped him once snd he laid back.

That sold me on Glock and since then I haven't bought anything but Glock.....

    I have two carry pistols; a customized Sistema 1911 and a Glock 30. ;)

Guns are tools. However, I believe that 1911's have a spirit.

I like that statement. I was a history major and really can appreciate the history and importance of the 1911. When I hold one I feel a connection to history. If I could carry everyday it would probably be a XD or a Glock, but my favorite gun to shoot, hold, look at and talk about is the 1911. When I hold one, I think of my Grandfather who through northern France with the 3rd Army. 1911's to me are like well restored 1969 Camaro or other muscle car, just pure 100% American goodness.
