What is a good 1911 chambered in 9mm?

I would like to buy a 1911 in 9mm to save some money. It would primarily be for range use but possibly for carry one day if IL gains some common sense. What are some good choices? I am leaning towards the DW guardian but want to know other plausible options.

getem, fun guns, IMHO. Over quite a few years, I've owned Colt, Dan Wesson, Kimber and Springfield in 9MM. I still have the four pictured. All, other than the Kimber, required at least minor tuning to achieve the reliability and/or accuracy I expect in a quality pistol. All my current 9MM 1911s are as reliable as my .45 ACPs. I don't carry these, but would not hesitate to do so if I so desired...

The Kimber Target IIs I've owned in 9 and Super all worked 100% from day one, no issues, very good value in a 9MM 1911, IMHO.

The Colts, Govt. and Commander size, worked well, but sometimes rquired a little tuning to achieve reliability.

Recent Springfield full sized stainless 9MM, rougher finish, improperly fitted barrel, accuracy, reliability issues, not a favorite of mine in stock form. I have an older blued custom SA 9MM that is a very reliable and accurate pistol.

Dan Wesson Pointman-9. A step up all the way around IMHO. Not perfect, but very well fit and finished, quality components, reliable and accurate. There may be higher quality production guns available, but I have not experienced them...ymmv

While the P95 is not a 1911 it handles and shoots a lot like a 1911. The P95 is competitively priced as well.

To the OP, If you're not dead set on getting a 9mm in the 1911 platform you should consider the Browning Hi Power. Just an idea.

A Dan Wesson will not be a mistake, whatever the caliber.

My gal has a Talon II in 9mm and it's an awesome, incredibly reliable weapon.

Find yourself a tactical 9mm and then buy a couple thousand rounds and a great carry rig with the rest of your money!!

Sorry to be away for a while,,, work, moving, etc., had things rather hectic for a few months. I own two 9mm 1911's,, a Taurus PT1911 and a Nighthawk AAC in 9mm,, my wife got that for me on my last birthday,, no,, I do not know what I did to deserve that one, but I won't complain. The Taurus is a very good gun to me, accurate, reliable and reasonably priced with many custom styled features,, I put a set of Novak 3 dot tritium sights on the piece and I use it as a trail gun and IDPA shoots and limited ccw, depending on the weather. The Nighthawk,, well it is simply the finest 1911 that I have ever shot or handled,, those boys in Arkansas know what they are doing,, superb fit and finish, great trigger, and puts them where the front sight is pointed. I do not have a can at this time,, waiting to see any changes in regulation her in the near future.

    Good shooting,
    Jeff

A Ruger P95 is a lot like a 1911 but it's good bit less expensive. Plus you can get a 32 shot clip for the P95 in case zombie elimination becomes an issue.
