I'm looking to purchase a semi automatic pistol mostly for self defense but eventually a carry pistol. I was looking at the Taurus PT 24/7 G2 .45ACP Pistol. What do you think? I'm not looking to spend anymore than $450.

    personal opinion:

if your on a hard budget take a look at used guns of better quality.

a lot of used firearms are frequently shot very little.

My son has the 24/7 and I have the PT745. Both have been completely trouble free and we both have no reservations about carrying these every day.

xd and xdm from springfield can readily be found used in your range as can glocks and occasionally sig.

i take it your not looking at single action 1911 style

I'm not sure what I'm looking for really, this will be my first semi automatic. So I take it no one like the Taurus line...

i would strongly suggest finding a gun range and renting a few to try and see what appeals to you. you sound like your on a hard budget so investing in some test drives to see if you like them or not is a wise thing before sinking your hard earned money on a pistol you may hate later.

Is the Taurus pt 845 any better than the new 24/7 g2?

I prefer the hammered design of the 800 series to the odd and complex trigger system of the new G2. But, I wouldn't have any problem recommending the 24/7 line.

I have several 24/7 Tauruses in .40 and .45, but no G2's. They are all really nice shooters and I have had no issues with them or the 15-odd Taurus revolvers that I own. I don't think you will find any issues should you decide to get one. I can't disagree with Jon's comment on trying out some range guns to find out what feels and shoots best for you. I also have a few Glocks which are fine guns. I have owned a couple of XD's, but they weren't particularly accurate for me.

I have the 24/7 PRO DS about 400 rds through it with no problems. My daily carry piece is the PT740 Slim it to has been very reliable. What ever you get be safe and enjoy.

I would highly recommend the Sig P250 since it is convertible to 4 different calibers and different grip sizes with only one serialized part. Sig quality Sig accuracy but only $400 or less. Check them out.;)
