Let's start a "what did you do to your bolt action rifle" thread...

I started the "what did you do to your AR today" thread and it was a success...so I thought I'd start this one so we can share ideas

    Here we go..

So today I added quite a bit to my brand new Remington 700 SPS tactical AAC-SD (.308) today

I got all this stuff in the mail and it was so hard to wait to put it all together..

I added a Badger Ordnance one piece scope base, an Advanced Armament flash hider, a Triad Tacticak stock pack, a KRG bolt nob and a Harris bipod..

All I'm missing is a scope and scope rings..

I have them (sort of)....my significant other has purchased them for me for Xmas, I just have to wait until Dec. 25th to open them..

So coming soon is a Leupold VX R 4-12x50mm and Badger Ordnance Max 50 30mm scope rings..

I am SO excited to have it all together...also, I purchased 250 rounds to break her in ;)

    So...your turn.
Keep us updated on your bolt action rifle builds...

Whether it be sniper guns, hunting guns, competition rifles, etc...

Well this works for me,.Today i done my first reloads for the Remington 700 sps .270win , I used once fired winchester brass an 'partially full length resized' them , I used AR2208 (Varget) in 45gr of and 130gr Corelokt projectiles.

I loaded up 4rounds of 43gr to get me on paper and then 5x 44gr & 45gr, although 46gr is max i didnt bother trying today.

At 50m -/+ a bit, i was able to shoot a tight 5 shot group with 45gr an settled on that for further testing at 100m & chronoed.

    pretty happy with the results.

I don't know about today but yesterday evening I carried my Remington 5R .308 deer hunting. I guess that's more of a "what I did with my bolt action" rather than "to". :)

Here's a picture of the field I hunt at daylight from about 2 weeks ago:

    Field.jpg

That's almost 400 yards on that side of the stand. I'm shooting 180gr Gameking reloads. I've got a 4x14x42 Burris on the 5R and other than that it's pretty much stock.

After re-finishing the stock on a newly acquired Mosin Nagant 1938 91/30, I took her out to the range and did some shooting. Best bolt I have ever worked is on this rifle - and we are talking about against 98 Mauser actions I have owned, Remington 700s as well. A luck of the draw kind of thing to be sure. Alas, the barrel is not a Remington 700, but it was never meant to be (despite what is shown in 'Enemy at the Gates)

I let my bolt action rifle rest today. - Yesterday it got a pretty thorough workout as I tried some new loads.

While it was resting today I looked at new barrels... It's a Savage so changing barrels and calibers back and forth is not a major project.

Right now it's a 243 with a 24" heavy barrel... I'm thinking of a 21" sporter barrel in either 260 Remington or 338 Federal. The 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge looks interesting - but I don't see and Savage barrels out there chambered that way.

The barrel channel in the stock will be extra-roomy for a Sporter barrel, but I don't see any harm in that.

Every barrel maker offers the 6.5 Creedmoor. Where were you looking?
You probably won't find one in Sporter contour that's in stock, but any barrel maker will make you one.Just be prepared to wait for a couple month's to receive it.

["Best bolt I have ever worked is on this rifle-"]

I got a Polish M44 with a great action, also.

I think most Mosins, when new, were surprisingly

    able and accurate guns.

Welll... this morning I used our "camo wrapped" M14 to do some "yoga stretches" with. (not bolt action but I thought you'd laugh) Strapped it onto my back...and stretched out that spine. The weight works well for my stretching. NO LIES!!! lol!!!!! My HusB thinks I am nuts... :D I am!

Years ago I had a Browning Stainless Stalker in .300 Win mag, all silver and black.

A hick relative once looked at it and said, "That's not a hunting gun!"

I showed him a roll of camo bow tape that I kept in the gun safe, but I don't think he ever connected the dots.

Yesterday marked the arrival of the last package I was in need of to complete my latest tinkering: a loaner rifle for unarmed huntin' buddies or new shooters. (For the longest time my loaner rifle has been a beautiful Rem. 700 CDL in .30-06, and its time for it to rest safely at home)

So here is the Savage Axis 7mm-08 in stainless. I wanted it to withstand the weather, or the neglect of a friend, so she's wearing entirely stainless or nickel-plated parts. I also ditched the factory trigger for a Timney, and the stock for a Boyd's laminate. The Leupold fixed power 6x36mm should arrive before Turkey Day. I'm really looking forward to sparing my nicer rifles from the wet winter we've got ahead.

Not exactly,I knew there were different kinds but I've never really looked to see what all was out there because I've never done 1, and this was easily available and cheap. Figured it would get me by for now.

Went to range today to try a couple of rifles I'd worked on this weekend. One was a pawnshop buy .243 Howa 1500 I'd made a stock for.....had made a change to shape of comb on butt stock to center my eye better in scope. My modification to cheek rest was satisfactory.

Have a Marlin XL7 heavy varmit barrel 308 that I'd removed about 2" of barrel from and recrowned. Did some more crown work on it yesterday. Took rifle to range to shoot.....to check the powder pattern around the crown and see what kind of groups rifle would shoot. Groups were decent, but am dissatisfied with the powder pattern from todays shooting..... a little more crown work needed.
