Add a scope or red dot? Is this a trick question?

You chose the rail. Keep the rings in the box that the rifle came in. It will increase resale value later on.

What is this resale he speaks of? What would cause someone to get rid of a perfectly good firearm? Confused...

if he ever did decide to sell it. people's tastes in firearms change sometimes over time. i know mine have. and if he decided later on he wasn't happy with his Mini, with the original box, paperwork and accessories that came with it, it will bring a better price.

I am wondering what he is talking about. Did he get Ruger rings and a forward rail or did he get a Weaver or picatiny rail that clamps to the Ruger mounts and Weaver rings? The Ruger rings are designed to return to zero when they are removed and remounted for cleaning. The clamp on rail has to be set up properly to return to zero since they have 4 screws.

I just assumed it came with the rail attached and the barrel drilled and tapped for a scope. I expect the end user has the option of choosing a picatinny mount or ring mount.

my mini came w/rings, but not a rail. apparently, the newest come with rings and a rail. i just heard of this recently.

what the OP is actually asking...well, i'm still not quite sure. i assume it is a question about optics?

chime in for us, if you would mr. 12th man? :p

My 581 came with a set of rings, so I stuck a nikon 3-9 on it. Came to the conclusion that I bought this rifle to fill a carbine niche. Went to a Tech-Sight peep and never looked back. IMO if you're gonna use the rings, get a red dot. A carbine calls for quick acquisition.

i have come to a point where i agree.

i put a 2-7 redfiled on my mini. it is a fine little scope. i put it there to challenge my bench accuracy at 100 yards. well, i have been there, done that....:)

i think now i want a 1-3 or 1-4 scope that i can use as quick "irons" and reach out a bit if i chose. i got a 1-4 on my AR and i love it so far.

i agree either low power variable with a 1X....or red dot. that is the way i would go today.
