What are your thoughts on a Mini-30? I've been leaning toward them and can't understand its gravitational pull on me lately. Anyone?

It has been rumored that Ruger may have came out with a better firing pin to improve strikes. I have missed a good opportunity to get one for $300 yrs ago and kick myself for it. I would not hesitate to get one if I was looking. They may take 200-300 to get broke in a operating smoothly. Some new minis feel rough and gravely out of the box. The thicker barrels have improved accuracy for all the minis. If you find a good price on one, get it! If you don't like it they are an easy sell.

Tula ammo is plentiful around here in 7.62x39.

I think it's a great concept. And if you can accept the below-average accuracy and are NOT being lulled into the consideration based on cheap Russian ammo*, I'd say go ahead!

*It is highly advised you only shoot brass-cased American made ammo in these guns otherwise reliability becomes an issue. Now there will always be some yahoo who doesn't even know where the term comes from that knows better, but it is hard to argue with an owner's manual.

Great concept, but the mini-30 standard clunky wood

stock begs replacement with something, anything else.

I also thought the iron sights would, well, get replaced ?:(

i have shot both the Mini 14 and the Mini 30 and if making a choice, for some reason and i really don't have an explanation, but i would like to own the Mini 30. best explanation is that it's a wonderful cartridge in this platform, and i already have an AR in 223, so i want diversity of a different caliber!

Avoid the Tul. I had a 20%- 50% failure to fire rate with tul. Not many problems with Wolf. Silver Bear was the best with no malfunctions. The Tul had primers seated at various depths and the deep ones got a light strike. I got to the point that I could tell which rounds were going to give me trouble by running my thumb over the primer.

I have a mini 30, black synthetic stock, real nice rifle. It does seem to have problems with failure to feed on wolf HP ammo....fmj seems to work fine, anyone else run into similar issue?

And I have to add that although it shoots the same round it seems more accurate then any AK variation I've had the chance to shoot.

I'd agree with him. It's an okay bang-stick but the Wolf ammo likes to hang up.
I can't say I've been overly dazzled by it, but my kids love shooting it. I've shot a ton of different rounds though it and not found anything that will hold a solid pattern at 200 yards with a Leapold 8x24 scope on it.
I keep it because I don't sell or trade any of my guns but if I were to sell a rifle, it would be in the top two or three.
