I'd like to keep it around 1k or under. Not sure if I want to go full size, I've been leaning towards a commander sized carry. What 1911 do you all carry or wish you could have?

Also investigate the CCO size. Officer frame with Commander slide. Quite handy. In your price range check into the Colt. The Dan Wesson is nice, but outside your price range.

If Cane dropped by, I bet he'd recommend the 21st Century Commander. I have a full size 1911 and I could carry if if I felt like it but yes it is a bit on the heavy side. Since I live in Chicago and can't legally carry I couldn't care less about that, however if you're in the market strictly for a CCW handgun, it'd make sense to get a lower weight 1911 and the commander seems like a good choice.

+1. This is my Kimber Combat Custom. 4" barrel with officers grip. Conceals very nice. Barely prints when carrying IWB at my 5 o'clock.

Thanks 2AF but I think the Wiley Clapp is a tad over getem's budget. But.....if he wanted to save up a few more bucks he wouldn't regret the extra 300$.

It's the first gun I've purchased that I find no need to modify. (but I will:p)

Colt Series 70 Commander Model 04840WC

The Match Barrel alone is worth the up-charge! The gun shoots well above me!

Cain,

I have seen your Wiley clapp in other posts and have been lusting over it since....I may have to save up for or pray a used one show up one day. What has your experience been like with it?

Oh and to all keep in mind I am a novice (i own a sig stx and an xdm9) but can't stop thinking about my next purchase!

the Springfield Loaded Micro Compact 45. lightweight, Officer sized frame, 3" barrel, Trijicon night sights, slim grips and contoured and beveled from the factory for carry. also pretty accurate for a short barreled pistol.

The SIG Ultra Compact .45. Lightweight Officer frame 3.3" barrel, low profile Trij. nite sights, beavertail frame, grip safety, standard width grips. 2 SS magazines included.

Commander size is easy to carry with the right leather but for EDC, nothing beats a Ultra .45 for carry.

The Wiley Clapp Commander is like the Grand Canyon. Try as you like, you just can't explain it. You just need to walk up to the rim and look in!

Yep, its that good.
