This morning we went out to a lease to thin the heard of hogs. It wasn't a bad day, saw at least 15 deer, but it's not deer season.

Anyways, I was in a stand looking forward and saw a good sized hog to my left. By the time I got my gun up he was in the woods, which upset me. Then about a minute later he walks back out no more then 30 ft away. I was ready and put a bullet right through his heart.

We gutted him and found out I just grazed his heart, but it still dropped him.

    Th, tha, that's all folks!

Nice kill and thanks for reducing their overpopulation.

Tell us about that scope mount there; is it mounted on the old leaf sight base? Brand? Satisfaction level? Ease of clean-up?

I'm very happy with that mount. It's a brass Stacker and it mounts on top of the rear sight leaving the iron sights still usable. You knock out the pins that hold on the rear sight and it bolts onto those pin holes. I've got to find a range to sight it in properly, right now it's just roughly bore sighted,.by looking down the bore, at roughly 100 yards or so... I know I know, I really need to get it sighted in before deer season.

It's my first "scout"* style gun and I'm in love with the system.

    * it's not a true scout because of weight and length, but the scope mount gives me a good idea on how it works. It also makes me want to chop it down or by a savage 10 fcm lol.

Waidmanns heil. Nice shot. What dishes are you planning on making with the meat?

Lol let me answer that tomorrow, in the last 2 days I've gotten like 7 hours sleep. Right now I'm planning on a nice roast on the slow cooker, probably some BBQ ribs. On also open for suggestions lol it's a good bit of meat.

Enjoy your rest. It is a customary over here to have a shot of Jagermeister with your fellow hunters after a successful harvest. So.....

Sounds like a good custom, I'd partake, but I've got no alcohol and I'm not going anywhere.

y'all know what gives pork it's unique, human like flavor? Also the reason wild hogs taste more porky (or humany) than farm raised?

Hmm...you may be surprised. Hint: it's not because of anything the two different meats have in common.

Whew! That has got to be the nastiest liquor ever made besides Scotch.
I can't see how anyone likes that stuff. I'll stick to my moonshine!

That's a sweet looking hog. I know those hogs are a terror, but part of me wishes we had them in my neck of the woods. I would love to get me one.
