    I have never had one but have read up on them quite a lot. I might have an opportunity at a old Mac 90 with the thumb hole stock. Would any one be able to tell me what one of these might go for now, if it was in average Condition.

    Any other suggestions in pricing other models would be helpful.

    I would also add that I have a great ar and assorted handguns and shotguns, so I am not a novice in all areas just this one. Any help would be appreciated....Lou

    MAK90s are climbing in price, expect to pay at least high-400s (or more) even with the butthole stock. MAK90s were typically Norincos, while "AKS762 SP" were PolyTechs. Brand names are just symbolic...

    If it has a straight-cut recvr - even better as a CHICOM butt will fit right up, if slant-cut; a bit more effort and $ to find the right buttstock to "blend in" with the slant.

    Regardless - they are uber-well-made AKs. Get it if you can afford it as they will never, ever be imported again in any config.

    If you don't - please post for someone else to score that bad-boi.

    See also for general CHICOM AK info. Info applies whether in pre-ban or MAK90 ban config;

    I think the price on this is going to be around $600 and I know that was high but being a few months from election I do not see the prices going down. Also is there a way to tell if it is a slant cut receiver or not without removing the stock?

    You will at least have to remove the top-cover and look inside where the butt enters the recvr.

    $600.00 'taint bad considering that is "new WASR" money in most of the USA now.
    I have a mint Polytech AKS762 SP that I scored off of a fun-show walker couple years ago and I wouldn't dream of letting it go for less than a $1K, I know thats goofy, but that is how much I like it.

    You will like your MAK90 too, bet on it.

    I just picked up my MAK 90 from a guy I work with, sold it to me for $300. Came with the thumbhole stock, 2 5rnd and a 30rnd mag. Its milled with the slant cut and the round hole in the back.

    They're going between 700- 800 on florida gun trader. As far as the slant cut if im not mistaken thats usually the milled receiver? but its only 2 screws to check and its worth it . im trying to get 800 for my straight cut receiver with reg pistold grip setup and thumbhole and 3 30 rd mags . its worth 800 to me so if I dont get it , no problem .

    Don't tell the guy I bought it from haha. It shoots real smooth. The guy said its been sitting in his closet for about 12 years, that was the last time he shot it. It's only got about 250 rounds through it including what I have run through it.

    I've tested several variants and derivates of the AK

    I'll tell you which are the best of them:

    From Izmash, Russia
    1)AKM-it's a classic and can be easely updated.Turn it to tactical by using a kit and you'll obtain a badass rifle.
    2)AK 101/102-made for export.Chambered in 5,56x45....the most common caliber in the US.Up-to-date, but it can be still improved

    From Zastava Arms(Former Yugoslavia, now Serbia)
    1)M70 series:It's the best AK derivate ever made.Chambered in 7,62x39, it has a better gas system, longer barrel, the same reliability, can be easely updated and modernized.Accessories can be addeded(to make it almost recoilless).

    Conclusion:
    I have tested and modified almost every type of AK made by russians, serbo-croatian, hungarians,etc.

    My weapon of choice?
    The Zastava M70.Absolutely the best!I prefer it to the original AKM.

    Things to avoid:
    -Buy the Chinese type 56 (from Norico,bad quality...it jams a lot).
    -Buy a Hungarian AK (poorly made)
    -Buy an AK in average status(Even if you can abuse and AK rifle in several ways, it doesn't mean it will work perfectly if you do it)
    -Buy an AK without checking the integrity of the barrel, gas piston and its rotating bolt.Even the mag insertion should be checked(If it fits as it should)

    Agree on the M70AB1 or 2 PAP's - outfreakingstanding beyond a doubt.

    Disagree on the Hunky or CHICOM;

    The 80's era non-AMD Hunkys from FEG are superb.

    ALL the CHICOMs I've had were great but the most "fragile" of the AKs - but only in terms of its blued-steel finish. You want to keep the CHICOM guns cleaned and oiled, wipe-down with a silicon cloth before casing to remove fingerprints, and be WARY of corrosive ammo.
    A blued/wood AK is kinda classy - take care of 'em!

    I got a Norinko mak90 3 months ago locally frm a local paper ad for $420. It came with black polymer furnitures and 2 chinese 30 rnds mags. 1st Ak47 i handled and it rocks. I had to replace the trigger group w/ $35 US made tapco for it to meet 922r compliance. Check *********.com for the list of best AK on the market.

    In comparison do you think the mini 30 is close in reliability and is it able to handle quantity of Russian military without problems?
