For home defense , what would be a good one to get that won't break the bank?
Remmington 870, Mossberg's are very reasonable
Agreed. You can possibly find these at Wat-Mart...I know the one in my town sells them. Also, you can check your local gun shop and see if they have any police trade-ins.
Plus, they (especially the Remington) are so customizable, you can find about anything you want for it.
Either of the two mentioned above are excellent - very reliable, very effective.
Mossberg 590a1 20" barrel 8 & 1
I would suggest a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 with a short barrel and a cylinder or improved cylinder choke. Both have a pump action and typically sell for around $200. I saw a Mossberg 500 at Walmart for under $200 a few months ago.
Do the math 4 &1 or 8 & 1
It's only about 50-70 bucks for a 9+1 extended mag on the 870.
Remington 870 our mossberg 500 would be your best bet. The 500 is lighter and the safety is in an ambidextrous spot so if you are like me and left handed thats a plus. Now I own an 870 and I wouldn't trade it for the world. And if you have a kid (depending on age) the mossberg will be easier to familiarize. both have an abundance of aftermarket goodies. One thing I would advise which ever way you go, don't go pistol grip only. The stock places the recoil in a more manageable spot than just the wrist.
+1 on all of this. I mean the best thing you could do is decide whichever feels better in band. There are very small differences between these two shotguns, and it will just come down to whichever feels more comfortable to you.
That is the truth. You are not going to go wrong with either Remington or Mossberg in a pump shotgun.
You could get something like this
P pistol grips ar real rough on the wrist from my understanding. If you want one I would go with a folding stock. They say if you don't shoot a hd or ccw wepon once every few months you might as well not have the gun. The more your comfortable you are with that gun the better prepared you will be when you need to use it. Also if you are married or live in girlfriend get input from her on what she will be more comfortable shooting. Like my wife is scared of my 12. And she hasn't even shot it. in my eyes there is a lot into what makes a good home defense wepon. Also for accessories if you ever have to shoot the gun, you will end up in a court house. The more overboard it looks, it makes you look more it makes you look trigger happy. So keep it practical.
Mossberg 500, reasonably priced and durable as a WW2 Jeep...
Any day now my purchase of a Mossberg 590A1 will arrive.
You couldn't go wrong with either the Mossberg 500 or Remington 870. Also, if your just looking for home defense, the Mossberg Maverick 88 Security is also worth a long hard look.
Like a lot of the others have said, Remington or Mossberg are going to be the best for your purpose and price.
Mossberg 88 is a naked 500 very affordable
I own a beretta al390 and it is a very nice semi-auto shotgun. Very reliable. Also the Remington 870 is good. But I heated they are taking it off the market. Am I wrong??
