I am thinking of sneaking a revolver into the house. Here is what I want.

    Double action
    Stainless Steel
    357, 41, 44 mag
    Price range $500

What do you guys think I can get. I have been looking and I want a smith because I have had 2 smiths before but all the ones I find I like are double the budget.

You should be able to find a pretty nice model 66 for $500. or less. Check around. Chances are you can find a model 19 and maybe a 586 or 686 as well.

Good luck and let us know what you get. Your secret is safe with me, but I don't know about some of these other guys. ;)

BTW, nothing wrong with a Ruger GP100 either. As you know, I'm partial to those. ;)

Maybe if you're lucky you can find a used S&W 657 or 57 .41 mag in the $500 range--my personal favorite. They are out there in full under lug versions that have a little more muzzle weight and are great to shoot! But getting hard to find... Good luck!

I see used 686s and Ruger GP100s for <= $500 all over my area.

If you intend to shoot a lot of heavy loads, I'd shy away from a 19 or a 66 as they aren't built as tough as the 686/GP100...

Check online at GunsAmerica. Smith or Ruger take your brand pick, one is just as good as the other, IMO.

As far as caliber, one of each, .357 and a .44 mag. You can find a GP100, 686, 629 and a Blackhawk all online and used in that $500-$650 price range. They still got plenty of life left in them.

Use a lay-away payment plan, then you can get more gun for a little more and low, equal, and spread out payments. It maybe a little easier to "sneak" it into the house and past security that away.

    FYI, I found S&W 686 and S&W 620 online new for $630 and $620 respectively.

You can likely find a police trade in type gun in that price range. Many of the 66's have had so few Magnums fired through them they are like new. The 4" M-65 is a stout piece also. Good luck with a .41 or .44 in that $ range. 57's and 657's in good used condition go for near 2X that price and are scooped up quickly.

A S&W 686 or Ruger GP100 seem to be your best/only option given your price range. Although, we all know that a strict $500 limit really means $650 minus tax.

THAT ain't gonna work. You can't sneak a revolver into the house AND have it ready for use. You really need to be up front with your family (or wife) and tell them (or her) what you are doing.

Ruger GP100 in .357 will be right in your ballpark.

    No not really.

I have 4 or 5 guns in my safe that she doesn't know about. That is what is nice about a wife that works nights. I can sneak off to the gun store during the day and bring it home and hide it in the safe. I just pack up boxes and she never knows the wiser.

If anyone breaks into my house I will just throw my 13 year old daughter at them. After she rips their heart out and spits in their eye I think I can take it from there.

same here on sneaking guns into the house before the old lady sees them...i tell her its a good investment (just like any quality made tool)and she always replies...but you have X many...why do you need another one?...just for hers and my sake to skip the argument...its better she dont know...;)as for a good revolver...if i had 500bones to lay down on one right now...i would be picking up that slightly used gp100 ss 6inch barrel 425.00price tag, from the shop down the street...what ever ya choose cpttango...im sure it'll be the right pick:)

I want stainless because I have too many blued guns. I have 2 rifles with stainless barrels.

I want a revolver and I want a flashy one. You have to look good when your blasting close range ground hog with a pistol......

That and I just don't have a revolver and I miss my Smith K-22 so much......

    Sneakn in the house

Stainless is Stronger? Can I Get a 2nd Opinion on That. Ill go with the no rust bit, 400 series will show signs of corrosion and will pit when next to another cantaminate. Any info out there about SS being Stronger than carbon steel. Wills in da Swamp:confused:
