Just got a walther P1 9mm. The date on the gun says that it was made in 1971. I was wondering if these were produced for retail sale or military. And really wanting to know anything someone else may know about these guns.

The Walther P1 is a postwar military version of the famous P38 pistol that was adopted for use by the German military and is still used today. The postwar P1 pistols have an aluminum alloy frame rather than the steel frame seen on the original P38 design. The aluminum frame was reinforced with a hex bolt above the trigger guard.
