I am considering either of these scopes for my next purchase. I don't currently own a "premium" optic and want to get something that has good glass, durability, in addition to having a wide magnification range. I was considering the 3-18 leupold with the illuminated reticle for around $1100, or the 2.5-16 bushnell for about $700. I have looked through the vx6 and the glass is amazing, but I can't find anyone that has experience with bushnell 6500 series. They both receive good reviews online, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with either of these.

I can say this much about the Bushnell they have a lot of scopes with the same features that don't have tactical in the name for $500 less.

rodl, what type of rifle is it going on,and what type of shooting are you planning on doing with it?
What distances are you planning on shooting?

I've never been a Leupold fan, your paying for a name nowadays, not for quality. Any decent quality scope comes with a lifetime warranty.
The Bushnell is a decent scope, but their customer service has had problems in the past if you need warranty work.

There are several other brands that are in that price range that I would suggest, but it depends on what your wanting to do with the scope-Hunting or Target shoot, and the range you intend to shoot, and the type of reticle that you want.

Sightron -either the SIII or S Tac series
Weaver - Super Slam Euro or Tactical series
    Trijicon AccuPoint
    SWFA SS series
Vortex - Viper HS,HS-T,or PST series

Bushnell, simmons, BSA, Center Point are all owned by the same company. I have never had any warranty issues with those brands. I bought a BSA shotgun scope really cheap several years ago. Last year I broke the crosshairs in the BSA scope. I sent the scope with a $10 money order to the service center. I got a new fog proof nitrogen filled scope. The scope I sent in had none of those features. I find bushnell scopes at yard sales. I send them in with a $10 money order I get a new scope, no questions asked.

    Thanks for the input...
I'm putting this scope on my ar-15. I plan on target shooting mostly, but there are times when it becomes a coyote/ varmint gun as well. I often carry this gun around my farm and use it for critter control. I may have a close range shot on an armadillo, and 10 minutes later want to take out a crow at 200 yards. I want a basic duplex style reticle-the other style reticles get too cluttered for me to shoot accurately. And during deer season I may put this scope on my 30.06 as well.

Leupold makes a great product! and they have a life time warranty...you can find used ones on ebay and if when you get it there is a problem, just send it in...sometimes they will even send you a new scope back, but the most current model :D

I have the VX 6 1-6 illuminated reticle on my AR and love it. Never had a problem with it, I would definitely buy another Leupold again.
