Looking around at my dealer and I spot a M&P45 for a pretty good price.($540). I came here to find some reviews and observations. Go back several pages and little info. Are these just not popular? Don't know what I'd do with it besides being a range toy but all of my .45s are currently 1911s.

What is everyone's opinion of this gun? Basically I have an itch and there are several handguns/rifles I could make a case for.

Do it!! The M&P 45 is awesome. I have yet to actually BUY one, but I have a lot of experience with them. I love it. The FDE duo-tone is in my "next 5" list.

Good guns. At that price its definitely worth picking up. .45 ammo is kinda pricey right now so, some folks aren't buying. In my area the M&P pistols run a bit north of that price, and the M&P .45 runs a bit more than the 9 and .40.

Could I put the M&P together for a Limited gun in USPSA? I run a SA XDM9 5.25" for production.

If I go with the M&P the I have enough left in the budget for a Baikal 12 gauge coach gun. There are other options but the M&P is about my top current pick of what's in stock.

You will not regret the M&P.

I've only felt them in shops, no experience with them. To me they just felt weird and I didn't like the trigger reset at all. I can't speak too much about it because I don't have range experience with them.

Just bought one with the 4" barrel. The trigger could use some help but I think you can get used to it. Hope you enjoy it.

Todays trip to a couple gun shops revealed very little 9mm ammo, but was able to get American Eagle for $22 per box. .45 ACP was running at $48/50. I could get .40 in many more brands and loadings but the AE .40 was running $19 per 50. First time I've seen it priced less than 9mm. AE was the only brand I could find range ammo for all three calibers in boxes of 50. All the other 9mm were defensive loads at over $25 per box of 20 or 25.

So, at almost $1 per trigger squeeze for .45 ammo I could see .45 cal pistol sales declining a bit. 9mm pistols are sitting in shops for a while around here too, not so much because of ammo prices, but availability.

Mail order ammo, the-armory, cheaper than dirt, Ables in Huntsville TX, ammunition depot, bulk ammo.
Look around, those prices you quoted and availability are terrible.
Ammo isn't hard to find. Buy from out of state and put the sales tax savings toward the shipping.

I have broken my polymer habit, however, when I owned plastic, I would take an m&p over brand g any day of the week, and twice on sunday.

My pop has an M&P45 that I have shot plenty. They are great guns and 15 round extended mags!

Imo they are the most comfortable double stack .45 to hold.

The M&Ps made this year have a new trigger with a better reset.

I had an M&P 9mm, the year they came out, and was not impressed with the trigger on it. After a while, Apex came out with their trigger kits, but to me, it wasn't worth spending the $100+ on one, so I sold it and put the $$ towards my AR.

What made it feel weird to you?

    45's other then 1911's

I only shoot one of my 1911's now, the rest are retired. Mine is a Combat Commander with a Compensator on the Barrel, adding .25"
The Last time we were all out shooting in the Desert(2 Sundays ago) our current MAG'ers, and our new members from My Temple(synagogue) one Gentleman Had a Ruger SR-45,and another had an HK 45,...They Both shot extremely Well, Accurate, and very little recoil, about the same as the Full Sized SR40 another friend had out that day...
