I hunt goose, duck, and deer. so I want to branch out my hunting into turkey. I have a 870 super mag. The Super mag barrel its awesome for duck and goose. deer I use a cantilever riffled barrel, to keep the rail clear. Now getting down to the turkey hunting part. I know i need the extra full choke. I also know that there is special turkey barrels. What makes it a turkey barrel? any pointers on turkey hunting and turkey gun set ups?

I have 26 inch barrel with the Rem choke system on my 870. I purchased a Hastings ported choke that will screw into the barrel, that was all it took to make it a turkey gun. Replace the choke with an improved cylinder and it becomes a trap gun.

Many of the special purpose turkey guns use a 22 to 24 inch barrel to facilitate easier movement when hunting while sitting in brush or a ground blind.

i hunt goose from a ground blind and brush from the sides of cornfields. I see a lot of turkey guns with red dots. do the extra full choke make it necessary for sights? i was looking at clip on sights but i hear a lot of mixed reviews on them. is it worth trying?

I use Tru Glo sights that clip onto the vent rib barrel. A red dot, Burris Speed Bead, even a scope, can work. Generally speaking turkeys are shot when standing still or walking slowly, thus a tight pattern is a benefit and various types of sights work well.

Never had a problem with mine slipping. Just make sure you get the correct size for your shotgun, widths of the vent ribs vary.
