Yesterday I was at the range with my AR15. I had several factory loads and some hand loads to try. My Varget loads were very accurate, but when I picked up the cases, they were very sooty. I’m not near the max, so I’m wondering if they get cleaner as I get closer to the maximum load, or Varget just isn’t a good powder for this purpose.

It is used by several competitive shooters in my area. Varget needs to be compressed which makes me nervous. I did not pay attention to the cases being sooty. I have done some loads with Varget but I prefer H335. I have a load with H335 that is sub MOA in my rifle.

Varget is my favorite all 'round powder for 223Rem, 6mmRem, 6.5CM and 308Win. I am going for accuracy and performance, and don't pay attention to sooty brass...brass cleans up easy enough.
