I just bought a 20 gauge 870 for my girlfriend to turkey hunt with I was just wanting everybody else's input on what kind of turkey choke and loads to use.....just to let everybody know before they post it I don't want to spend 30 or 40 dollars a box on heavyshot shells I'm shooting lead only

3", 1-1/4 ounce copper plated #5s or 6s, and pattern it. SHE doesn't need to practice with those loads, and one shot won't kill her. A RemChoke extra full will likely pattern fine.

I hunt with Federal Mag Shok turkey loads, you can get those in 20 ga for about $10 per 10 round box. I have a Hastings ported turkey choke for my 12 ga 870. But definitely pattern the full choke that come comes with the gun, it may work fine.

I think I'm going to shoot the 1 5/16 oz # 4s or 5s in the federal mag shok.....that's what I've always shot in my 12 GA so I'm going to stick with the federals but I'm still jot sure about the choke.....I'm making a trip to bass pro today to see what they have I would like to find a non ported tube bc that's what federal recommends to be shot with the flight control wadding

The one I picked is nice. I like the added length even though it's only an inch. It wasn't ported, and I like the wide selection of ammo it gave me. I heard people shooting steel out of the choke and it patterned well even though it says not recommended for steel shot. For 20 bucks I couldn't go wrong.

I haven't been able to put anything threw my gun yet because the range stoped letting people shoot spread shots. There was an incident I guess... =/

#6 shot is a close range deal.

I'm not a big fan of number 6s either that's why I like 4s or 5s just depends on what shoots the best

I'm not sure what ammo I'm going to use yet... I want to find a place to shoot first. Being geographicly challenged, it's hard for me to just go out back and shoot...

I think I'm going to go with winchester super x turkey load. I'm going to buy a box of #4 and #5 to see which I like better.

I use the super x slugs. Really like them. Never missed a deer yet. But I have a few months to see what I like. And if I don't like them I can always get different shells. I couldn't really argue the price 11 bucks for a box of 10. And besides I could always use an excuse to shoot.

Haha that's true....the super x turkey shells just aren't made as well as the supremes or the federals but they are a lot cheaper lol
