Subsitute powders DO begin to lose some potency once opened. But 3 years? Pish and Tosh, my good sir. Keep it closed in the original container, cool and dry, and from a .50 cal you might lose 25 fps the first year, maybe 10-15 fps each additional year.

just dont increase charge ammount to makeup any difference. you may get some in there that hasnt decayed at all...

worst that can happen is a fizz instead of a boom then a long wait for any sparks to die off before pulling the bullet/ball

I don't use much per year, so have minimal air in my container.
The cost of a hunt, or even any question in the mind to reduce confidence...........aint worth it.
I dump mine every two years (usually a half can by end of 2nd season).

Probably not needed, but peace of mind and cheap insurance.

Especially when you can supercharge your kid's science project with it! All the other ones are lame baking soda volcanoes while your kid has Krakatoa! :p

    Just kidding... Well half kidding.

I don't fart around with my MZ, it's for hunting and the cost of dumping a half can or so of T7 isn't crap compared to all the gas I burn going back and forth to my spot scouting or hunting.

Some nice bucks where I go.....

My biggest so far, was only 98 yards. My farthest was just a doe at 178 paces (down the hill). All sidehammers, all offhand, iron sighted. But my bores are lapped, fouling and or cleaning intervals established.........Hell I used to keep all my kill data on Excel. Yeah, maybe I overdo the detail stuff, but the results seem to justify it ;)

I get new caps every season too. And even decades ago with regular BP, get new before season (and verify it). But back then my hunting bud was an officer in a MZ club so we shot a lot. I don't anymore, and find the hassle of BP to be almost too much. I could have gone out this year but decided to leave the TC Silver Elite alone.
