In California can I have an unloaded handgun and ammunition in the same container, but magazines separate?

I'll give you an example of what is legal in Ca. Say for example you have a gun bag with your pistols and ammo and magazines in it. you would be legal if pistols were unloaded with ammo in gun bag with them if you were transporting them in the trunk of your car. Now it would not matter if magazines were loaded as long as they were not inserted in the pistol. I was pulled over once by the cops because my vehicle fit the description of a vehicle that was seen steeling copper in the neighborhood. cops searched my trunk and found my gun bag after trip from the range that is how I had them stored they said it was fine. If you want to be extra careful you could even put gun locks on your guns while you are transporting them not needed but it makes law enforcement even happier when they pull you over. number one rule dont transport loaded firearms in car. number two dont transport firearms in vehicle where you can reach firearms and ammo within reach of you or passengers in car in California. That was a simple way a very experience law enforcement officer explained it to me.

Perfect, thank you. I've always wondered, but google is just running around in circles for me.

    It's California.
Receiver in your car, but only one at a time. In a locked container.
Get your friend to follow you with the other pieces. In a locked container.
Get your mother to follow you with the magazines. In a locked container.
Get your sister to follow you with no more than 10 rounds maximum. In a locked container.
Notify the highway patrol so that you can get a police escort, at their convenience.

I'm going to just have to wait then because my sister can't drive yet. Maybe I can get my dad to follow instead of my sister...

That'll work, but you'll need written permission from the Governor, and 2/3 of the state legislature. Good luck man.
