WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court is handing down eagerly awaited rulings on and three other remaining cases in its last meeting until the fall and the final day of Justice John Paul Stevens' long service...

The justices could decide that the Second Amendment's right to "keep and bear arms" serves as a check on local and state gun control laws, as well as federal restrictions.

    Reversed and Remanded!

5-4, the court recognized that the 14th Amendment does incorporate the 2nd Amendment against the states as recognized in Heller.

Stevens dissents for himself. Breyer dissents, joined by Ginsburg and Sotomayor.

Looks like incorporation is under the Due Process clause...

That would seem to mean the states can not over ride the 2ad, but we will see

Yeah but if you live in DC it's still a PITA to get a handgun even after Heller. The process is more confusing than most and has requirements that are designed to make it difficult and somehow those are legal or so they claim.

Chicago will be the same I assume.

I don't see this helping things here in LA much. We are considered a may issue as far as CCWs. So technically they are not infringing on my 2A. But they never actually issue to Joe citizen. At least it shows they can’t go Chicago or DC on us out here.

What this decision means is that the courts are going to be stacked up with more lawsuits against cities & states. Heller opened the door for this decision and this case will open the door for others.

Being legally able to carry was never a part of this case as it was about a city/state being able to ban guns completely...

Cal Guns has also been hoping for this decision. They are going after the Cal DOJ on the approved handgun law. The approved list is more about extorting "test fees" from manufacturers then any kind of concern for safety.

Correct, now we get to argue how much regulation denotes infringement since one does not have to ban a right to infringe upon it.

Hopefully the handgun roster will be the first to fall, followed by the AWB. I know Chuck Michel is working on both.

The approved list is insane. Why would a blued model of a pistol be "approved" and a two tone model is not? Money!

Just like Traffic Cameras, especially red light cameras. Can't meet budget? Put up another 100 red light cameras and turn the yellow light durration down to the leagal minimum 3 seconds. Pretty frickin hillarious that the TEXAS Transportation Institute can do a test and evaluate that a reduction in crashes and tickets directly correlates to having the time to 4 seconds or more at any intersection, regardless of size.. . Increasing visibility of lights also has a tangible effect
Study: Longer Yellows Reduce Crashes (Texas Transportation Institute)

quote The study also found that the vast majority of red light camera tickets are issued within the first second a light is red -- in fact, the average ticket is issued when the light has been red for half a second or less. Yet right-angle crashes, which account for the majority of red-light related collisions, "with one exception, all of the right-angle crashes occurred after 5 seconds or more of red" (5-16). In other words, tickets are being issued primarily for split-second violations where collisions are not occurring.
    un-quote

Many politicians don't really care about safety, they care about meeting budgets, quotas and whatever else their corrupt boss puts on their plate. Safety Generally isn't first, even at manufacturing facilities that say it is in their modo/creedo/mission statement whatever.. . Financials mean everything!!

Does this ruling affect the approved lists? DC is still able to restrict handguns to a very specific criteria including no capacity over 10 bullets and several other requirements. I thought this ruling just meant they can't restrict an entire class of firearms.

DC was trying to tie their "approval process" to that of CA. If CA falls, the rest will follow. Keep the heat on.
