so what do you reckon ?
i personally use 3in slugs
my gun only take 2 3/4 shell . 00 good to 10m, slug good to 20m. big pigs 100kg+
a 2 3/4 in slug would also work, are you hunting from a stand or with dogs by foot?
Years ago I bought a Marlin 512 Slumaster - it has a rifled barrel and 2rd. detacheable box magazine. With a 4 x 20 scope shooting 2 3/4 Remington Copper Solid Slugs it produces 2" groups at 100 yds.. The Copper Solid Slug breaks into 3 pieces on impact, and being made from solid copper, they retain ALL of their weight. A friend dropped a Boar at 60 yds. with one shot to the shoulder. I haven't hunted with mine yet because I shot 3" slugs out of it once and I wouldn't want to do it again - with 2 3/4" slugs the recoil is manageable, but not a pleasant gun to shoot!
I hunt hogs with 3" slugs, makes for a good and quick kill and can really stop a charging boar in his tracks.
on foot no dog.just mate as backup with second shotty
Birdshot in any gauge is for....birds:
I love box o truth - Good stuff on that guys page. I don't always agree with his assessments, but he does some great field tests to allow you to make up your own minds...
perhaps i missed something???
He has a bunch of field tests on his site, not just the one for birdshot. You can see all his tests for yourself.
