I have this book and I reference it several times a year. I highly recommend it. It's written by James Wesley Rawles, the guy who wrote "Patriots". It's well worth the money.

It's the only place in my home I can find peace and quiet. And even then... only until the kid finds me.

I just finished the book myself a couple days ago. It's scary as hell, because it's so believable.

my wife and i are currently looking for a house. i keep trying to steer her towards a place off the beaten path with a few acres of land. but she wants to be in the middle of everything. in a subdivision within throwing distance of a shopping mall and grocery store. i just cant make her understand and she wont read either of my rawles books.

smack her. Just kidding don't do that.

Take up a bit of gambling and lose a little money. That way the only house you'll be able to AFFORD will be a little cabin out in the boonies. Plus, most casinos give you free drinks when you start losing big.

No, again I'm just kidding. You'll just have to try and talk some sense into her

yeah, smacking is out of the question. she bruises like a peach. maybe a couple gut punches? no kidding there. i'm still trying to talk her into it. my grandparents/uncle live out in the boonies, but it's an hour and a half drive, plus i can only take a limited amount of stuff.

My wife and I live right in the middle of town, just south of Memphis. Luckily though, she's the one who likes the city livin, but also the one who first said "if things fall apart, we're going to your Mom's house"

Her and my step dad are set up to take in about 15 people comfortably, are prepped and ready for the apocalypse, and I already have a bunch of gear, personal items, clothing, and general stuff prepositioned there, along with a horse to carry my fat butt when I get there and we all run out of gas.

We are talking underground cargo container kind of prepared.
Food, water, meds, vitamins, materials for all kind of stuff. They even have a whole rack of BP weapons, plus recipes and materials to make BP, and a good supply of flints, lead, and molds to go along with them.

They are estimating that with a full house, we could all get along for about 5 years comfortably. I personally think that only about half of us will be able to make it there, all the other relatives just live too far away, so that could extend the time to 10 years give or take.

And in that time I really suspect that some type of an economy and industry will be going, at least locally. Trading homemade BP for stud services? Totally doable.

How you deal with this is up to you. Early on, my wife and I argued a lot about prepping and taking reasonable precautionary steps (which she thought were unreasonable at the time). Finally, I calmly said this to her: "I will not let you prevent me from doing those things I believe are necessary for the protection and well-being of our family." That worked.

Now, she's on-board and gets it.

My wife works out there at the outlet mall. I don't play though, never had so much money that I felt like giving it away. But I do know that the casinos out there give you drinks without even having to lose!! Just hang around the slots and look like your doing something!
