Here is the beginning of my next project.
Stay tuned, more to come next week.
Looks like you've got a good start!
Really nice handguard, I really like the way it integrates with the receiver's rail. Also can't go wrong with the DD receiver.
What barrel are you using in your build?
I have a 14.5" middy DD and DD BCG showing up on Monday.
Looking good. That Rainier comp throws a nice flame. LW DD barrel?
Standard weight, I thought about the LW, but I don't care for the way it necks down right behind the threads. Purely aesthetic, but it doesn't appeal to me.
I see where you're coming from. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
Me too. Barrel, BCG, and gas tube coming from AIM Surplus. Should be here Monday. Everything else came from Midway. Already had the Rainier comp from another project.
Great project, Russ! You're off to a great start.
Thanks for the quality pictures...
This will be my first upper build. I'll try to document everything and do a full write up for anyone else who wants to give it a try. I already pulled my first bonehead move. I wasn't paying attention apparently, and ordered a rifle length gas tube instead of a mid length gas tube. That will put the build on hold for another week while I wait for the right tube to show up.
Might as well get the mistakes out of the way early on!
Glad it was an easy thing to correct.
If that's the worst one, it's smooth sailin'.
Next batch of parts arrived without complications:
I love seeing double D's....on rifles especially. Looking forward to seeing the completed build, I've been throwing around the idea of doing a ground up build myself since I have nothing but time. It's just the patience that I lack, last thing I want to do is rush and screw something up and end up having to pay someone else to fix my mess up.
So far I would say go for it. I have a little more whittling to do on the FSB to make it into a low profile gas block so it clears the rail. That has been the only challenge so far. I'll do a full write-up with pictures and lay it out step by step. But if you have a big bench vice and a good torque wrench, you should be fine.
I'd rather see double d's on woman, but rifles can be a close second
Actually, I have a lot of tools, but I do not have either of those lol I'll stay tuned to the thread because I'd really like to see what all goes into it labor wise. Definitely looking forward to the finished project.
Well played good sir lol
I'm gonna start a new thread for the build, just to clean it up a bit.
