The only difference I've seen is the charging handle and the way the upper attaches to the lower. The reason that had to be done that way is to keep it from being called an "AR variant" by the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police). On this side of the border ARs are classed a restricted meaning we can own and shoot them, but only at a legally recognized range. That means no hunting with them at all.

This basically changes two things (that I can tell) in order to allow Canadians to hunt with them. Thus the name.
