The window you see in the background is about 2 feet from where I sleep. There's a young buck in the neighborhood who's a 2 year old. I know where he's started to scrape that velvet off. While I sleep, mostly whilst I am dreaming of Montana deer (863 miles) and N. Minnesota deer (302 miles). Can't shoot in my neighborhood and 'Young Buck' darn well knows it.

There's wild turkey as well on my street. A rafter of 6-8. How many do you think I'd see if I camo-ed up and drove forever with a turkey call and a gilley suit?

There's a chart that shows Minnesota wild hare population as being at its lowest point since Moses was in preschool. Copyright: 16 hours looking for a couple hares for a gourmet recipe for Mrs Chloe......sans lapin.......however, in my own back yard, my 'secure' garden, I have rabbit damage. And see them daily

Coyotes abound, I see one on my way to work at 5:50 every morning 6 blocks from the house. There are bear incidents weekly near the river bottoms- the last being a bear that was not at all impressed with the local PD's .40S&W heiny shot.

A gawd-danged bucket of cracked corn and 'my own yard' privileges would cure my need to go to the grocery store........alas

Situations cloeshooter describes is why CCI developed standard velocity ammo and Winchester developed the 22 mag. Small game is hard to find in rural areas. I visited a friend in TX a couple months back. He wondered why I wanted to sit on the porch. I was listening to quail whistle "bobwhite" There are only a few areas where quail are plentiful here in NC.

Between farm products that make bird eggs brittle, feral cats and now coyotes small game has no chance to thrive.

I have never wanted to hunt at home and always had a number of deer around the house ,2 does twins for both and a couple yearlings each currently. Ieep a small wire bottom bowl with a good scope of deer feed in it everyday . Just enough to make the does come back. Nice to watch them but travel to hunt. Not much for turkeys right around the house but do have a bear once in a while.

What is insulting to me is the deer that browse on my shooting range. I am really not that bad a shot.......

Ft drums ranges often get shut down because of animal life on live ranges. Pissed us off, 12 pointer, 40 guys with loaded m16s and they turn the range cold!

a couple of years ago, the wife and i were on vacation and went into downtown New Braunfels looking for a restaurant we wanted to eat at that evening and there were deer walking the city streets in the downtown district. we saw them crossing streets and standing and grazing in people's yards. i know we saw at least 30 deer of more that night.

axe That enjoyable to see till those same deer eat everything nice . All flowers gone gardens , gone and a problem is building. Has happened in many places around the country. We had it over in Ashville nc in biltmore village where deer were hunted by there leos just to reduce the herd size. They would not let a run of the mill bow hunters in there !!

Evidently the deer think you are.
We have quail, doves, pigeons and cotton tails all over the neighborhood. I saw a coyote catch one across the street a couple of weeks ago. We are not rural. The rabbits do damage landscaping and I know some people shoot them with pellet guns. Several people have lost pets to the coyotes and they have no fear of people.
