the "Class" system

    Can anyone tell me the diffrence between the "Class"es i know that most FAs fall under the Class3 designation, but that is about all i know.

    01 Dealer in Firearms Other Than Destructive Devices (Includes Gunsmiths)
    02 Pawnbroker in Firearms Other Than Destructive Devices
    03 Collector of Curios and Relics
    06 Manufacturer of Ammunition for Firearms
    07 Manufacturer of Firearms Other Than Destructive Devices
    08 Importer of Firearms Other Than Destructive Devices
    09 Dealer in Destructive Devices
    10 Manufacturer of Destructive Devices
    11 Importer of Destructive Devices

    Class 1 Importer of NFA firearms
    Class 2 Manufacturer & dealer of NFA firearms
    Class 3 Dealer of NFA firearms

    Class 1 SOT status requires an importer FFL, either Type 8 or 11.
    Class 2 SOT status requires a manufacturer FFL, either Type 7 or 10.
    Class 3 SOT status requires a dealer or manufacturer FFL, either Type 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, or 11.

    As the man said- the firearms themselves are not classed, but are CALLED class III, since they must be transferred through a dealer that has that license. Ordinary firearms may be called Title 1 firearms- they are regulated by the 1968 Gun Control Act. Antiques are guns made before 1899, or guns of any age that use loose powder and ball. They are not regulated by Federal law (muzzleloading rifle, ball and cap revolver, etc).

    Class III firearms include- full auto, short barreled rifle, short barreled shotgun, suppressors, destructive devices, and "any other weapons". An AOW includes things like a shot pistol MADE as a shot pistol, a cane gun, etc. They are properly called NFA firearms (1934 National Firearms Act)

    So it works like driver's licenses. You need a different license for big rigs than you do a normal car.

    Yep and sometimes even though you have a CDL Class A you still need that hazmat endorsement. Same concept.
